I would welcome any feedback from people that has been diagnosed by Dr Rozewicz or Dr Schapira?
My story goes like this, I was referred by my GP for an ADHD diagnoses some months ago( this was after lots of begging and the usual spiel from the GP about Adults not having ADHD blah blah blah blah)
So all seems to be going well except that I received a letter from Dr Rozewicz from Barnet who specialism is ADHD, that there was a 2 year waiting list. He did recommended me to the Mausley. Anyway the Mausley panel recommended that I have a ADHD assessment and they wrote to Barnet PCT for funding. Now since then, which was over 3 months ago I have heard nothing and my expectation are low with regarding to getting the green light for funding.
So now I am probably back at square one after 8 months. I will probably have to fork out for a private assessment. Now Dr Rozewicz charges £600 for a 2 hour assessment plus follow up and meds but my alternative is Dr Schapira who charges less than £400 but forget the exact amount plus follow up and meds. Both look good but wanted to hear from you as to which one I should go with? I have spoken to them both and Dr Schapira seems to be the one I had a connection with but chemistry fit is hard to judge on the phone so I prefer to hear from experience. Any help would be awesome! Also will I need to pay for any potential meds or will local GP prescribe me repeat prescriptions etc
Thanks
Jonathan

Hi Janev The thread was started on Dec19th so it's not a complete orphan. Not that many people go private so the chances of finding someone who knows the named doctors is small - and apart from reporting 'not a bad experience' what can you say? After being diagnosed three times and going to other peoples diagnoses on a 'professional' basis I'm just about getting a grip on what makes a good one so a comment on a single experience wont tell you much. If going private the permutations on 'on costs' is something like is your NHS GP going to play ball with them (called a 'shared care agreement') otherwise the scripts would have to be private (kerchingggg!) and paid for as a private prescription (double kerchingggg!). Your GP might be sympathetic but the holder of their purse strings (the Primary Care Trust - soon to be Commissioning groups) might not fund ADHD diagnosis or treat someone already diagnosed, though you can challenge those decisions. It's potentially challenging.

Based in Harrow where pct will not fund any adult diagnoses. Looking to go private but read above that it could be a waste of time as my pct would not / might not fund the meds. How much is the medication if you purchase it privately?
I have already read above that assessment is around £700.
My partner is already on the "never to move" waiting list 4 ADHD clinic and we are thinking to just pay the clinic ourselves directly rather than wait for Harrow to decide they were never going to pay for the assessment.
NHS has already messed my family about for years with getting the right adhd diagnoses for my son and this is not happening for my partner!

Hi guys,
Sorry for the delay in replying to your post. I did finally get a NHS diagnosis at the Maudsley via Barnet PCT.
The result was that I do have ADHD-inatentive subtype. I originally got the GP referral in September and the assessment did not happen until early March. So stick with it and make sure you stay on top of the Barnet PCT funding team. I wrote to the head of Funding and he then emailed me back with the individual who was handling my funding case. I kept hassling this person until he eventually got round to signing the funding off. It still took 6 weeks to then get the appointment.
I am happy to help as much as I can if you want anymore advise.

I took this seriously first thing this morn when came on here and was half asleep - and reported it (my first ever report ) but on reflection think its some dick head hammer or spammer or whatever you call it - not sure what that means actually - is it when someone posts something to wind people up ?? if it is then they had me going for a while am used to wind ups coming from wales like but I love this doctor so something had to be said in his defence - wind up or not suppose we should just ignore it and not respond really - then no fun for the hammer/spammer then in it

I've seen Dr. schapria for about a year privately and Dr. Rozewicz on the NHS for several years. Both do the same job really. All they can really do is prescribe all the various Meds until you find what works for you. Be aware, the meds may not make all the difference you are hoping for. It will help, but don't expect it to be dramatic. The expense of all the private treatment may not be all that worth it. Let me know if you've already been seen or want more info on these docs.

ADMIN COMMENT
There is a problem with this sort of thread - anything negative that is written is potentially libelous and by allowing those posts to remain the forum is considered a publisher of those remarks - which could end up in a huge fine.
Therefore we have to remove negative posts which makes the whole thread fairly pointless.

Hi all. This is my first post.
I would advise against seeing Dr. Schapira based on my own personal experience. The NHS have been far better for me. Myself or my GP never received any patient notes from him regarding my diagnosis, most of my very expensive sessions were filled with talking about other patients of his, and I very rarely got the full hour that he charged me for.

Just for any future peeps looking for advice I've never had anything to do with dr Rozewicz but I'd go with him over dr. Schapira. I'm not sure if dr. Schapira is struggling with personal problems atm, but he looked tired, bored and very univested in my diagnosis, I left the 45minute session with no clue whether he disagreed with the previous psychologists diagnosis and thus I was not diagnosed or what. He didn't listen to the answers I gave and seemed to get the impression I had asd as I didn't spend much time in person with my friends and disliked my current flatmate.... but it's 2020 and in Scotland so... I would be breaking the law to meet people? He ended the session telling me nothing about therapy (which he had written in his notes that he discussed with me) and told me very few of the potential side effects of medication. Instead he spent a solid 5 minutes talking about how autism wasn't a disorder so much as a condition and it just meant I was probably a solitary boffin.... I'm sorry what?.... While I agree there's nothing wrong with being autistic; it is *like adhd* just a form of neurodivergence... but both asd and adhd can present with significant issues in the world as it is set up for people who function differently. Its therefore for a lot of people very useful to have them labelled as disorders and disabilities as that often allows them to receive the adjustments needed.
Don't choose Schapira for adhd assessments.
