As it stands, I've been referred to Conwy Mental Health Team and am waiting for an appointment. CMHT are widely known to be entirely ineffective and I have prior experience of them to confirm this. They have no psychiatrists and only one psychologist (to whom I am referred). None of the team have any specialist knowledge of ADHD.
The only specialist ADHD clinic in the area has closed down and Conwy choose not to recognise Adult ADHD.
I am doing my degree in Preston so have the option of transferring to a Dr there if it would be worthwhile.
Does anyone have any experience of services in this area?

I've already emailed Preston PCT to ask about A ADHD. They don't do it. They said I might be alright to continue getting my prescriptions from a GP up there but I need to make further enquiries. You would however be better off in Manchester if you wouldn't mind commuting to your degree.

How old are you?
Blackburn and Darwen PCT has a paediatric service that will diagnose up to 25 (and continue support afterwards).
The principal might be good for more PCTs.

And if that doesn't work for you the major clinics take remote clients (eg The Maudsley and St Caths Birkenhead) - so any PCT that funds will do - even those that refuse funding might do on an individual basis.

DKL, Thanks for the info. I wonder if I could pretend to move to Manchester, instead.
Dave, I'm waaaay too old for Blackburn. I guess I shall have to go back to my Dr again. Ho hum. Thanks.

Went back to the Dr's today. Hadn't heard from them after I emailed asking for a referral to an expert, rather than the local mental health team, which they'd given me.
Turns out she had just dictated a letter explaining what she's been doing. She's going to ask the local psych (non ADD specialist) for his advice and send me wherever he recommends. She had been trying to find somewhere local, but had come up a blank, so she's happy to refer me to an out of area clinic. She also said that several local ADD people get their meds through the surgery, so that won't be an issue either.
Can't tell you what a relief it is to have had that conversation. I'd geared myself up with all sorts of evidence and didn't need any of it, she just took my word for it.
Fingers crossed it will be plain sailing from here on.

St Catherine's, Birkenhead is the obvious choice from North Wales.
Dr Peter Mason Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, The Stein Centre, St Catherine’s Hospital, Derby Road, Birkenhead CH42 0LQ. Email: peter.mason@cwp.nhs.uk
It might be best if you told your local health care professional - many health care pros contact me because they can't find their arse in their trousers.

Thanks, Dave. I've forwarded that info to my Dr.
Do you mainly get contacted through here or through Maddchester?

maddchester - they don't often find this place...and then they'd have to find a link. Frequently workplaces have a lock on forums and the maddchester site is actively tagged to draw in search engines so that's more easily accessed.
