I don't have any of my school reports. I rang my primary and secondary today. No one still works at the primary from when I was there and the only teacher I could remember from the secondary had passed away it seems. Neither of the schools hold school reports longer than three years apparently.
Not sure HTF I'm going to get hold of anyone from that era to fill in the questionnaire thing. Anyone been in this situation? What did you do?

Quite a few people find themselves in that situation, and worse (ie family members report you were 'normal' as a child). Have you searched for 'school report'?

Hi Michael, I had the exact same with parents that also refused to help but fortunately, after telling the specialist how hard I had tried, he said it didn't really make that much difference as all the other evidence spoke volumes .... So just on the strength of the 'test' paper, my history and my Hubby's testimony, I was diagnosed straight away.
I know it's not that easy for most, and I am so lucky I was in the right place, but it's well worth remembering that if you do see a specialist, they can still diagnose without childhood evidence!
Good luck x

I very recently tried to get hold of old school reports in preparation for my assessment. They told me that school reports are automatically destroyed after 10 years by law.
However by sheer co-incidence I managed to find a couple of secondary school reports the day before the assessment, both had repeated comments about lack of concentration, day dreaming and "needs to try harder".

Just to reinforce what mizmog said, I was diagnosed without any childhood evidence. I suppose it must depend who you see, but if it's someone with any amount of experience at diagnosing adults, they're likely to have come across your situation before.

As it happens, the age range of 5 - 12 I don't think I had any 'impairment' anyway. 12+ is where things started going awry for me.

It needs to manifest in 'childhood' to meet the definition of ADHD - but many of us hit our teens before it really started to impair. If you develop symptoms in adulthood, the psychs will look for other causes - eg trauma or thyroid etc

Psych also diagnosed me without needing to see my school reports... tho I actually have most of them all neatly filed in date order in a folder ! Kept them for 30+ years - one of the minor miracles in my life :-) Tho he couldn't have seen them on the day of my first appointment cos I left my folder of carefully gathered 'evidence' by the front door ready to take with me but stepped over it to exit the house and left it lying there.

Mouse I have done that soooo many times... Actually step over things I put there deliberately! Ha ha
I know it does tend to manifest differently in girls and doesn't tend to be picked up very early anyway so I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for some boys in some cases!
I have just found out that my cousins two boys hv been diagnosed with ADHD but the little girl apparently is 'fine' although she is displaying all the same symptoms but in a different way.... My daughter is the same and I can see all the ADHD in her too but in a very different way to my Son who is typical ADHD boy.
I really think its about who you see on the day and how much experience they have x
