Hi all! I've been researching supplements for brain health / function and was wondering if any of you have tried or had any success with anything in particular? I currently take 1000mg Omega 3, Vit D, Zinc, Vit B complex and use Magnesium Oil spray or have Epsom Salt baths every now and then (when I remember! : . I've been looking into the following: N-Acetyl Tyrosine (which I think is a more bioavailable form of L-Tyrosine) L-Theanine (Suntheanine - for anxiety) ALCAR and ALA (Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Alpha-Lipoic Acid) If anyone has tried or is currently using any of these, I'd be really interested to hear your experiences with them (also if you've experienced any bad interactions with your ADHD medication). Also, while we're at it, has anyone tried any nootropics? I've been looking into piracetam and other racetams, but I'm not entirely sure if there will be problems with taking both Concerta and a racetam. I understand that the best way to supplement is through diet, but I have a p*ss poor appetite. Add that to the fact that I hate going shopping and mostly can't be bothered to cook, it becomes a real chore to make sure I'm eating right. I'd rather get something (via supplements) than nothing! (P.S. Guess what my latest hyperfocus is ;D)

Been taking omega 3 and a multi-vit for as long as I can remember. I eat oily fish almost every day too. My ex seemed fairly convinced that omega 3 does nothing outside of the fetus but I continue to take it in the vain hope that it does *something*.
Funnily enough, I did try piracetam a while back. I didn't feel any effects and after a while, I felt distinctly 'odd'. I couldn't put my finger on it so binned the remaining tablets and the choline.
However - and take this with a massive pinch of salt because my memory is so bad I can't actually remember - I did manage to study for and pass an exam *around the time* I was taking piracetam. It only occurred to me the other day and I've not been able to marry up the dates so like I said, big pinch of salt.

Omega 3 is the mutts nuts. Find somewhere like a craft shop, sometimes they randomly sell it at about a 10th of the price a health shop would. I pick mine up for 99p L-tyrosine seems to make medication a little more effective, and work for symptoms over some time if you take it for about a week

I was buying that omega 3/6/9 stuff until it went hilariously expensive. It's recently resurfaced in various shops still sporting the '3 6 9' moniker but the ingredients/nutrient info only lists omega 3! Now I just have a teaspoon of rapeseed oil, every morning, for a quarter of the price. Post your findings grip

iv done my research and trial-and-error on this particular subject, but not to the extent you have! i personally take 3 x 1000mg of flaxseed oil (im a vegetarian) and my concerta 36mg. i have taken vits etc in the past, but as you've mentioned, i'v focused more on diet. i cannot overemphasis this, dont suppliment instead of diet my friend. it sounds like you cant be bothered to do much, which is hard i understand, but focus your efforts into eating correctly, and work on the base instead of the building when trying to restructure your bodies chemistry. iv always been aware that eating takes away focus and makes you drowsy afterwards, and i think this applies to anybody. so what i do is i have a large breakfast, which doesn't count towards any kind of daily calorific total in such a sense that other meals throughout the day do, and then after this, i have smaller meals during the day, especially at work halfway through a shift, to control how much blood my stomach takes from my brain. so in essence, fish oils/flaxseed oils and diet (the body needs omega oils as it cannot produce these by itself) tea is good for concentration, coffee not so much. side note: have you looked into Taurine (which is used by bodybuilders to improve muslce size, cramps, night sleep) and it also inproves focus (which is why its in redbull etc) Jonathan

What 'large breakfast' do you have that allows you to discount the calories?

I take starflower/evening primrose oil, not exactly for ADHD more to help minimise PMT because PMT + ADHD is not good and that's an understatement.

Omegas are getting a LOT of attention in the academic world in relation to ADHD (and dyslexia, other dys-ias, bipolar, depression... More or less you name it!) And I've seen a bit of 1000mg doses of Omega 3 being banded about by reputable looking sites. I've heard a lot of anecdotal evidence that it helps. I personally find it does! Not just with brain issues but also dry skin and healthy libido.
Plenty of water (especially if on stimulants - see my thread on Dex)
Higher proportions of protein. Chicken contains something that helps you sleep (can't remember what it's called) so I'll often have a few bits before bed. I'm contemplating replacing/supplementing my usual breakfast of homemade muesli (other half allergic to nuts) with oat milk (hate soya and have found I'm likely to be dairy intolerant) with meat of some variety. Most likely chicken, but am also considering sausages.
On the chicken front, I find the best and cheapest way is to buy a whole one and roast it. While it's still fresh out of the oven, take off all of the available meat and put into a bowl. Can add to anything you like!
PMT? Have you tried the Mirena coil as your contraceptive? Insert once (yes it is a bit painful, take iboprofen, paracetamol and codeine (can now get 8/500mg cocodamol over the counter) 30mins-1hr before you go!) and forget for 5 years! Periods massively reduce, in 1/3 (?) women they stop altogether after 6 months!
