So... got my diagnosis as an inattentive and I started Concerta XL 18mg. Big relief tbh. Possibly a bigger relief for an inattentive because if you're not bouncing off the walls, it's pretty easy to label yourself lazy or something. Day 1 - 7. No obvious effects. If it had been put in my food I wouldn't have noticed. This doesn't seem to match with other experiences I've read on here. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience in the first week

You on 18mg ? Personally the first day for me I felt a bit tense more likely cos I was expecting something to happen however subsequent days I felt Happy I could focus especially on my guitar/singing much better it was like a light going on.., I stopped after 4 months due to daily palpitations but after an ok ECG I'm going to try MPH .
Give it time I'm sure you'll fe effects tomorrow xx

18mg didn't even scratch the surface for me,so yeah i would say my experience in the first week was very similar to yours.
I've stabilised on 90mg daily now, that does the trick just nicely.
(i think what i mean is stick with it,at the right dose it works well)

18 was like a very short lived breath of fresh air. Only did it for a week and they put me up to 36, that was not enough and went to 54. It seems that everyone is different with the meds. Best advice I can offer is to keep at it, ask them if it's ok to adjust the dosage yourself til you get it right, because it can get to a point where you are up and down, and it's not good waiting weeks while it is like that!
Good luck!

Been on 36mg for the last two weeks. Had a weird 'pulsey' feeling for the first two days and after that, pretty much nothing. Also noticed that drinking coffee (I don't often drink it) gave me a headache and once again, made me conscious of my heart beat. I don't find I am thinking more clearly. I am just as forgetful, if not more and I am still tapping my fingers and being distracted by things. It was half term last week, cue an outdoors adventure. One day in particular, we were driving out to the place and I mentioned to my daughter I had left my drink behind. 'Lucky you didn't leave your wallet!' she replied. Time stopped for a second. I tried to retrace that morning's steps of putting my wallet into my left coat pocket and my mobile into the right. I quickly realised that did not actually happen. I flicked the centre armrest up in the car and there's a blank space where my wallet normally resides. *ARRGH* Luckily, we went with other family who had remembered their wallets! What now? Dunno. Not impressed with this drug. I hadn't envisaged having to try multiple medications. I think I optimistically clung to the idea that the first one would just work I have to wonder if all this extended release bollocks is to blame? I hear dexedrine is now to be replaced with it's pro drug 'XR' equivalent too, lisdex? I've come across the word 'bio-availability' whilst searching for reasons that I don't seem to be responding to this. It sounds selfish but I do not want to have to become an expert in this. I have plans I want to execute in my real life and I do not want to go down the road of becoming consumed by investigating why this or that does not work. I especially do not want to fill my time with understanding the relationship between drug PH and stomach PH or liver cytochrome interactions/inhibitions, the blood brain barrier or WTF an enantiomer is! I just want something that works!! /rant PS: wallet was later found in someone elses house.

Tricky with meds I found out early on too with Concerta XL I was getting headaches and Palpatations so came off them.. Dr wanted me to try Stratterra but I frightened myself off from starting it and so been med free for about 4 months now and everyone incl me noticed the difference I'm now due to go back to the ADHD clinic in May to discuss further med options I have tried my daughters MPH XL just a low 5mg dose could be just on my head but I do feel they lift my mood slightly and so I may consider trying them out but rather the 4hrly not the XL I hope you get sorted with something else Michael its finding a balance xx

36mg once a day? It's not a huge dose.

I have been on 18mg of concerta four 5 weeks and can say it has been life changing. A very difficult life now seems like it could be ok........being able able to express yourself can be quite a liberating...............
