Hi fellow add'ers.
just a quick question. I have a really clear memory of a time when I was a young boy, trying to convey to my parents that noises had suddenly became very intrusive sounding in my head. These noises had became nearly unbearable, this only lasted for a short period of time. I still get glimpses of this intrusiveness from time to time when certain noises intrude on my senses.
The question is has anybody else experienced this? I mean a definite time and memory of this starting.

Certain noises have always been a trigger to immediate rage in me. The sound of someone eating especially. I often have to leave the room to avoid explosion. Think there is a thread somewhere else on here about this already.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "very intrusive sounding in my head".
If you mean that the sound can suddenly be felt as a pain sensation, like a sort of synaesthesia, then I haven't personally experienced this though I think some people do.
I was (as a child, probably from ages about 6 through to teens) very easily enraged by the sounds of certain people talking.
I see it now as a bit like this:- with ADHD life is like walking along a very narrow plank that requires all one's limited concentration to make progress along. Other people easily (but unintentionally) knock one off the tightrope with their distracting voices or remarks.
As a kid I wrongly blamed them. Now I see the problem was with my demon Adie. So apologies to anyone who knew me then.

What u describe as intrusive noise I myself is a sensitivity to noise I find it happens to me when I'm burnt out and agitated It could be the noises of a neighbour or traffic I feel I need to crack my neck like I need to do it because I cant relax and stress builds up in my neck. When I'm overwhelmed noise is intrusive because I cant relax and it's like the noise is just stuck in my head and I can't think straight I find tv adverts are the absolute worst because they are monotonous. If u have ever scene the film daredevil were the guy has to sit in a soundproof casket to drown out sound if U have scene it that's my best comparison in times of burnt out noise sensitivity ,it dosnt happen all the time only when I seem to be very agitated and mentally restless usually in the evening after a stressful day

Ditto. If I am frazzled or tired certain noises really wind me up. They do when I am not tired but I am less likely to overtly react. Petra mentioned the noises associated with eating....I agree. I can't stand listening to people eating, especially people eating crisps. Also listening to tapping keyboards drives me mad. My neighbour's noise irritates. I can tolerate noise if it's caused by someone being creative, like playing a musical instrument, but I hate the mindless noise of my neighbours TV through the wall. I listen to white noise a lot and life is calmer. I am sorry you have similar issues, but on the other hand I am glad it's not just me.

Few words of advice that helps me relax in my apartment im me myself and adhd by the way but couldn't get logged in lol when the sound of my neighbours is driving me batty I stick the headset into the telly and completely drown out outside noise this way I can relax and concentrate in whats on and chill . You can pick them up cheap enough 20. Quid I think is the cheapest just make sure before u buy that they have a jack 5mm cable this is the bit that connects in the microphone insertion in the back if the tv, currys PC world , Argos will do them just some advice it helps a lot and if I ever can't sleep I can watch telly with headset on to not annoy neighbours
