After being diagnosed at the Maudsley Hospital I have been offered something called CBT. I google it...Cock and Ball Torture! Sounds a bit draconian to me but I have to say the nurses that carry out this are very attractive!

You probably should have added ADHD in the google search string.
It actually stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Much less painful.

Can I ask you - how long after your assessment/diagnosis did it take for you to receive your report back from the maudsley?

Oh my goodness - then mine really is shockingly behind - 9 weeks and counting - I take it you went to the main place rather than a satellite clinic? In any case, 9 weeks is just ridiculously long... Have called each week, keep getting told not much longer probably.... Didn't really know what I can do to speed it up.... Sooooooo frustrated!!!!

CBT

Sorry to hear that. I just checked my emails to make sure. I was told it could take up to 3 weeks but I had my report 15 days.
Yes, I went to the main clinic. I didn't get my meds for a bit after that as there was a bit of toing and froing between my doctor and the clinic.
Yeah, nine weeks is a long time. I would have been climbing the walls. I was anyway! I sympathise.
If you can, try to speak to a female nurse called Nurse Chris. She was/is very helpful. I was fobbed off and lied to by a receptionist there and I made an official compliant. After that I found things were done very quickly. But I did have my report before all of that.

Thanks for the info pipster. Was a satellite clinic not the main one so can't call that nurse Just called clinic again and from telling me at the beginning of the week that it should be done by the end of this week, I've now been told that it should be done by the end of next week... Which is what I've been told each week for the last 6 weeks so really doesn't mean anything at all.

I'd put in an NHS complaint and see if that moves things along quicker.

I told the admin person that I was going to write to the consultant. She said he was in clinic today and would give him my number to call me.... Don't think u need any psychic skills to guess whether or not I've actually had a call!
I'm going to my GP tomorrow to see if she can write to them to speed it up - only thing is that From previous experiences I don't think she's that 'up on ' or sympathetic to mental health things - we'll see - guess at least I'll know what to prepare for re prescribing if the report ever does come through. After that I thought I'd try pals...

Sounds like the admin person I had problems with. She told me I would have to wait another 3 weeks to get my medication and there was nothing anyone could do. I asked to speak to my nurse who was helpful and always said if I had any problems to speak to her. The admin person said the nurse would only tell me the same thing. I said I didn't care and wanted to speak to her. I then left several messages to which the admin person said she got. Eventually I became fed up and demanded to speak to her. I was told she didn't want to speak to me and said the same as the admin girl was saying. I was then told she had left for the day.
I knew this wasn't true so I wrote a letter to complaints@slam.nhs.uk stating everything that had happened.
The next morning the nurse rang me, very apologetic and concerned. she said she didn't get any of the messages, would never say she didn't want to speak to me and had not left for the day when I was told she had. She was very grateful for me letting them know what was happening. Quite scary really when you think this is a mental health clinic. I could have been suicidal and only comfortable talking to my nurse.
I think the girl was suspended and disciplined. I was given a direct line to the nurse and my problem was sorted out very quickly and not in 3 weeks.
So my advice, if you have a complaint, and I think you have, write to complaints@slam.nhs.uk

I'm very glad you got through pipster. It's far too sad that this is the state of things... people in jobs they need but that they're not all that good at or really care for.

That is extremely angering and yet not surprising. Some medical admin staff, in my experience, can be terrible - one GP practice I was at had receptionists that offered medical advice over the phone and wouldn't give you an appt without knowing what it was that you were wanting to talk about.
At a physiotherapy dept I gave the required notice I couldn't attend an appt - just. And was told I'd made my notice later than I had done and so my treatment was being discontinued. I found the dept head's/manager's email address after a little investigation, and told them the exact time I placed the call according to my handset records and offered to send them my itemised bill if they required that level of proof. My treatment resumed.
PALS (Patient Advice Liaison Service) are also a good place to start.

Sounds like the admin person I had problems with. Shocking. Open contempt really, isn't it? One has to wonder how a reception ditzy came upon such a bad attitude...

It is mentioned in the first two posts... and then it got digressed into discussions of admin at Maudsley. We're not very good at sticking to the topic, are we. ;D I've done an online CBT course before for depression and found it very useful. I hadn't realised how destructive my thought processes were until then. In fact it never occurred to me before that the way I think is not the same as everybody else. Since finding out about ADD, I've been grilling people on how they think about things or organise themselves or plan things. I find it a constant source of amazement that other people think so differently to me and that I've been so unaware of it all this time. I'd be fascinated to know how they do CBT differently for ADD brains.
