Well, there I was looking up Jan's Clonidine to try to find a bit more about it, and Wikipedia mentioned it was sometimes used to treat RLS.
What's that, I thought, immediately forgetting about my original search.
Turns out it was the thing I had in my legs when I was pregnant. The same sensation I now have in my shoulder. And then the most interesting bit:
"An association has been observed between ADHD, and WED/RLS or periodic limb movement disorder. Both conditions appear to have links to dysfunctions related to the neurotransmitter dopamine, and common medications for both conditions among other systems, affect dopamine levels in the brain.[18] A 2005 study suggested that up to 44% of ADHD sufferers had comorbid (i.e. coexisting) RLS, and up to 26% of RLS sufferers had confirmed ADHD or symptoms of the condition.[19] A 2009 study updated this to report that 39% of RLS sufferers also might have ADHD compared to 14% of controls and that those showing signs of both had more severe RLS, suggesting that perhaps either the difficulties of WED/RLS and low sleep quality caused ADHD-like distraction or that dopamine was a possible common factor and its improvement helped both, and that RLS sufferers might wish to consider ADHD testing as well, but cautioned that neither condition was proven as the cause of the other."
So there you go. Thought I'd share it with you. x

Me too with RLS I'd guess that percentages for co morbidity with adhd are understated as well as percentages for prevalence overall. I've had RLS all my life but never been to dr about it. Also wasn't asked about it in adhd assessment - which did surprise me actually cos have read a lot about its link with adhd in the last year. Times that it's been worst for me are: When I'm ill (flu etc) During all 3 pregnancies (getting worse as pregnancy progressed) In first couple weeks after starting buproprion - stop smoking drug that is weakly effective for adhd treatment When I'm especially depressed sometimes It sounds so trivial and yet is just horrible when u get a really bad case...

It's funny about RLS getting worse as your pregnancies progressed. Your body suppresses dopamine in order to help allow you to produce breast milk.
I get it too, and I think I made a thread about it somewhere ages ago. Will try to find the link and post it here.... If I remember!

Will try. Might be a while before I can though. Will ask hubby for relevant medical textbooks when we have time. Something we're a bit short of right now as he has exams and we'll be moving house in the not distant future.

Nope! I was mostly wrong! I was making the presumption that the dopamine level was across the whole brain/body. It's just in one very tiny bit of wiring which just happens to use dopamine as its neurotransmitter when talking to the part of the brain that controls pro-lactin.
However I know anti-psychotics act on dopamine and one of the side effects can be lactation.
