OMG, I can't tell you how nervous I am!
This new service I'm using isn't particularly organised just yet so, although the psych got in touch yesterday and asked if I was free this afternoon and asked what time, he didn't confirm until this morning. I didn't want to jinx it by saying anything yesterday.
So, I'm seeing him at 1.0!
Got all the usual worries. What if he doesn't reckon I've got ADHD? What if he thinks it's not bad enough to be worth treating? What if I have to wait months for meds? What if all my fidgets abandon me in the consultation? What if ... ?
All I keep thinking is that I've got 3 months until I'm back at uni and starting my dissertation. Surely 3 months is enough to get something sorted, right? But then I think of all the hassle and crap people have put up with on here and I start worrying all over again. Gah!
Deep breath. I've got lots of notes. Lots and lots of notes. And school reports. I'll be fine. Right.

Good luck and don't forget that these people have experience in dealing with adhd so, if my experience is anything to go by, they'll be understanding of fidgeting, forgetting what you were saying mid sentence etc. Good luck, my advice is to make sure you let them know how it's affecting your life - it's one thing having it but they also need to see it's impairing your ability to function as you'd like. Be thinking of you and let us know how you get on soon as you can

Thanks guys for all your messages.
He was really nice, spent about an hour and a half talking and I have a diagnosis! ADD! He said he will write to my GP with his report and a prescription. I just have to have blood pressure, ECG etc and then I should get meds. Whoop!
What a relief! Not quite sure what to do with myself, now ...

Soooo pleased for you Kathymel - what a relief that a)diagnosed and b) enough to get meds . Have quickly looked on an off all late afternoon /eve waiting to hear and when there was nothing for ages, I started to get worried that you were in a big depression cos had a 'you can't have adhd cos you're doing a degree' person assess you - phew Fingers crossed for you can get settled on something that works quickly and who knows - you might even get your dissertation in early - or be one of those people who hand a pretty good draft in a few weeks before hand to see what the lecturer thinks so it can be tweaked - and then rewrite still handed in early!!! ;D ;D To all the already medicated people - don't destroy my dreams yet please!

Thanks, JJ. Sorry to keep you on tenterhooks. Weds is the day my son and I always go to the pictures and eat dreadful crap food afterwards (rather than just eating dreadful crap food in the house). I couldn't wait to get back here and tell everyone. I think the idea of getting my dissertation in early might be pushing it, though.

Thanks, John. She's already said she is happy to do shared care, so it should be OK. *crosses fingers*
She has also been annoyingly slow at times, so I may have to hone my pester-power. We'll see.

Yo my mood changed yesterday I'm wrung out, it was a struggle all day was a good day here the sun was high in the sky, 18c yesterday it was hard to stay out of the house cause if I hadn't done anything my dear wife would've been on my case. Who just doesn't understand. Yesterday I could've eat, slept & drank for queen & country Anyhow today I will be talking to my gp, I'm gonna lay it all out. About meds & and my current mood etc As for patient's council I contacted them yesterday about the complaint about the psychiatrist & queried about the time for the scan. I'm sure knowing doctor's they will have some way of covering their own arse well !! I'm really happy for that you have done so well to nearly finish a degree. I Left school with nothing not through my own fault but through my condition. I personally from experiences with doctors wouldn't be banking on getting your perscription early. Dnt mean sour the moment for you but I'm delighted for you !! (I think the idea of getting my dissertation in early might be pushing it, though. [/quote] Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards

Congratulations Kathy, that's fantastic news - especially about the shared care. Hopefully you'll be able to start and adjust to the meds in good time for going back to uni for your diss.
I also was diagnosed yesterday - in his words I have "classic/typical" combined type! I was pleased though not surprised to hear it ;D. A red letter day for us both of us.
In my case the specialist didn't want to treat me himself as I live too far away, so he is going to write to my GP (who has not as yet agreed to shared care) and ask her to refer me to a local specialist who will be able to prescribe. So, still several hoops to jump through and I'm prepared for it to take more time than I'd ideally like before I can start treatment but it's a start.

Hi infrontofthescreen. It's great to hear you have a diagnosis, too! He made the same recommendations to Janev, in terms of it being too far. I hope it doesn't take too long, going through your GP, though it will likely be a fair few months. Fingers crossed for you.
Manson, it sounds like you are surrounded by people who are unsympathetic, but your wife not understanding must be a hard one to take. Would she be willing to read one of the books that are out there for partners of people with ADHD? It would be such a boost for you to feel like you had someone on your side, I'm sure. Good luck with the complaints procedure.
Thanks, Dizzy. How are you feeling today?
