Reason I said ask them to give her a copy is so that she has a chance to read it first. Otherwise she's on the spot and might say at your appointment that she needs time to read it so you'll have to come back later in the week or something. Especially if 1st thing Monday morning - even normal people don't like Monday mornings (I think / assume ?). If she gets first thing tomorrow then less easy for her to do that... My receptionists made sure they got my GP a copy when I said I had an appt already - think they wanted to help me too (or get rid of me cos had called them so many times) but there was a definite push to help the GP.... Xx

Unfortunately, she's not in until Monday morning, so even if I took it in tomorrow, she wouldn't see it until then. I suppose I could book an appointment later in the day to give her a chance to read it.

Kathy don't use the Russle Barkley youtube video as evidence, it will just get passed off as "american" and somehow therefore inferior. Fortunately the Royal College of Psychiatrists have their own youtube channel, and guess what? Some of the first videos they uploaded were from a special training day on Adult ADHD. One of those video's is of Prof David Nutt talking about ADHD treatment. The video can be found here: During the video he cites lots of meta-studies and a few major studies. It's well worth watching the video (and the others in the channel on ADHD). This and the other videos will give you all the evidence you need. Prof Nutt and Prof Asherton are recognised experts. The videos have been published by the Royal College and therefore are approved and supported by them. They were made to train professionals on Adult ADHD. Shove that into your Psychiatrists EGO. Boom.

Well, my GP's receptionist said they got the private psych's report today and it is now scanned and waiting for my GP to read when she gets in on Monday. I have to phone Monday morning and try to get an appointment and ask the receptionist to make a note for the GP to read the report before I get there. Fingers crossed!

Before I forget, just wanted to wish you luck luck luck tomorrow at GP Be strong and resolute about your diagnosis if the NHS thing is in at the same time (v unlikely though) (closest there was to a 'determined' smiley!). (Though thinking now the dark eyes thing might mean tired?? ). Whatever I'll be thinking about you - post what happened soon as you can xx

Thanks, JJ. I shall do my very best to get her on my side and prescribing. Even if it comes to sitting on her floor, wailing and refusing to move until she does. Just realised the smiley I had thought had a green handkerchief up to its face is, in actual fact, puking. Nice. Finger crossed.

Thanks, Jan.
I'll be keeping half an eye on the skies above Betws-y-Coed in case you appear in your new goddess outfit (I'm imagining something fetching in gold and royal blue).
If I don't get the prescription tomorrow, I will start having to think about PALS.

Fuck, fuck and thrice, fuck! Sorry to keep you all waiting, but had complete meltdown in GP's and spent rest of afternoon with S.Ex. GP said psych had not followed procedures. He is supposed to prescribe meds until correct level is found then hand over care to GP. Mine had just written out a list for my GP to follow. She said there's no way she can prescribe, and had already phoned the person in charge of prescriptions (no idea) for advice. She assured me she is on my side and will do everything to try to get things sorted. She was going to ring psych later to try to sort something out with him, too. She also highlighted the dubious practice of offering discount in exchange for patient advocacy and said it was ethically unsound. That hadn't even occurred to me, but I think the fact taken out of context may make it sound worse than it is. So, the upshot is, I still have no meds and no idea if or when I will get them.

Blimey, I can't believe uve been screwed about like that and they had the nerve to charge you!
Just been catching up a bit on what I missed past couple of mths. I'm on 140-150mg of quick release methylphenidate per day. It only started to actually not hinder at 20mg a dose and only stays working 2-2 1/2 hrs, I tried the slow release but it was not a pleasant experience in my case, so went straight back to fast release. Not up to being a Guinea pig at this moment in time, so when they said about changing drugs as couldn't have more than 100mg a day, I emailed them all the things that didnt happen while on them for a week and all the very dangerous situations I put me and my kids in that week when I reached the point at each day where I'd used up my doses and so carried on as my "normal" self. (Worst thing about seeing head work, is seeing how bad things really are when it doesn't ), anyway, finished by asking them to put in writing why they thought the risk of upping the dose so I could be covered most of the day, whilst having regular check ups for bp etc...out weighed the immediate risks to my family. And why my thoughts about whats best for my family and my life were not taken into account when these decisions are made?
They upped them, which only makes me think less of them for their original decision.
While standing up to them, I was only thinking about whats best for my kids, its easier if you can look at it from outside ur self, especially with children because I think most mothers will fight tooth and nail for their kids even if they never manage to stand up for themselves.
If it wd be of any help to have more details let me know.
Good luck xxx

So sorry not sorted out for you yet Kathymel xx
Your GP is talking crap btw - she absolutely could prescribe if she wanted to - titration and everything....
My report only said to prescribe mph 3 times per day, titrating up to a maximum of 100mg per day. No further instructions, no suggested any thing else.
My GP isn't any sort of specially trained, special interest adhd specialist - she's just agreed to prescribe for those people whose gps won't. My point being that your GP is not giving you the whole truth and saying she's on your side might be a way to fob you off without you knowing...
Also makes me wary of whether GP going to do anything cos of mention about dubious practice - none of what he did invalidates your diagnosis - why would he risk the reputation he's trying to establish by misdiagnosing someone? And clearly he would get GP to titrate cos you've got no money to pay him to!
Have you found out anything more yet?
Really really hoping for you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Struggling to write anything today. Feel weighed down. Thanks for the info, LB and JJ.
I was a bit doubtful when she said that she couldn't prescribe. I've had a look on a few sites and they do confirm what you've said, JJ.
I would hate it if she used his ethical blunder as an excuse not to prescribe. I'm sure it is just naivety rather than evidence of bad practice. They are struggling to set up a new style of practice, want organisations, authorities and patients to get involved and are not having much luck with the former two. You're right - it doesn't invalidate the diagnosis.
She still hasn't got back to me.
