Few months. There's no profound effects, you just notice you are doing some stuff differently.
For me, I've noticed I am making decisions quicker, instead of pondering them to infinity.
It's pretty hard to be objective but I would say there's no magic wave of concentration for me and I am still impulsive but every little helps, right?

The old adage 'everyone is different' applies I suppose. There are people getting great results with Concerta.

I like pink!!
Any way back to the point, I was not told what type I have either but have been put on MPH if that helps?? I am curious to know now!
Why do you take the magnesium?

I happened upon some Youtube stuff that said we are all deficient in it and typical blood tests don't highlight it. So I bought some!
Is it doing anything? Fk knows!

I'm inattentive. The medication helps with my impatience with the world when things don't go my way, and mean I can focus better on what I'm doing and use my memory aids more effectively. I also deal better with stress and don't feel tense all the time.
Dexamphetamine is my berocca - "Me, but on a really good day!" However I do get sleep issues worse than I had before, but I've found I can use the Dex to help with that too. I'm just finding my levels with it.

I'm mixed type. I think I lean more towards inattentive though. My meds (Elvanse and Citalopram) deffo help me though.

Dexamphetamine is my berocca - "Me, but on a really good day!" Sent from my GT-I9000 using proboards Really? Do you feel no personality changes? Do you feel just as alive or sharp or as witty? V curious cos mph takes away part of these things for me - I'm more serious and also feel that I would score less on an IQ test with them - not massively, but definitely significantly. Would be very interested to hear your thoughts ? X

Thanks Curtis , can I ask one more thing - when you were at an mph dose that wasn't so high it made you shaky/anxious etc, did it work reasonably well but just not as much as you wanted - what I'm trying to gauge really is how the dr will react to me asking to try something else. It's def much better with mph in the clear head / better mood / ability to focus / can get on with things better once I've started - but I want to know if it could be better on Dex and I feel I need to choose my words carefully in my request so I'm not dismissed as either having too high expectations or as drug seeking or whatever...

I have never been on anything for ADHD apart from Dexamphetamine. I don't notice a change in my personality, but I do notice a HUGE difference in my mood and motivation, in that I am not AS tense or tired or snappy beyond that which is reasonable. If anything I become more witty in that I'm faster to get to a joke/tell it better. I am so sluggish sometimes - especially in arguements, so I've also been better able to express discontent and pin down the reason why before it gets to a point where I'm wound up so much, the pressure of the feelings seems to act on a wrong-way-one-way valve, so it all ends up pent up inside getting worse and worse.
When I've forgotten the citalopram for more than a couple of days, I get very irritated very easily, and I haven't yet found a reliable way/practiced enough with controlling my impulse to NOT sort out the problem there and then. I'm just more alert doing so when I have remembered the Dex!
JJ - you can only tell the doctor what you know. Ultimately you have got as far as getting a diagnosis AND TREATMENT! So chances are you have a psych with his or her head screwed on. They will be in a better position to tell you if your reaction to MPH happens to mean that you need to try a different dose for a while, or if you really do need to try something else. You also need to know that these drugs work really well on some people, not on others, and many people somewhere in between. While I appreciate how lucky I am, it's not just the drugs that I rely upon. They are the splints that allow/help me to walk, but I have to do the walking myself and I have had coaching to help me adjust to the new map of "life knowing I have ADHD", when before I was trying to read the map of "life as everyone tells me it should go".

Thanks for that DKL, your last bit especially resonated in that you have to adjust to a new way of being with no map other than what you've idealised as being how other normal people get through things. The coaching thing sounds more and more relevant as I've gone through the titration process to find a working dose for me.
My prescribing GP, although lovely and supportive, was surprised when I was tired/hungry on a low dose - yet, looking on here, it's clear that this reaction isn't that weird. So I'm more cautious about speaking to her about more subtle things/effects - this is why I've been asking for anyone else's experiences.
However, there is a Maudsley nurse that is checking up on my progress, so I think I'm going to speak to him about it. The info from you and Curtis and others is really useful for validating my experiences and my thoughts that something else might be slightly better for me - or is at least worth asking about / trying. So thank you so much for your help, I'm really grateful xxx

Thanks Curtis , can I ask one more thing - when you were at an mph dose that wasn't so high it made you shaky/anxious etc, did it work reasonably well but just not as much as you wanted It gave me plenty of focus, but zero motivation, which is my biggest problem to begin with. My body was very quick to build up a tolerance to it as well. 18mg worked for a week or two, 54mg worked for a month and then 72mg worked for a few months. I do worry that I'll have the same tolerance issues with Elvanse, but I'm hopeful.

I have tried every ADHD medication on the market, including the less known ones for Alzheimer's.
The only thing that has worked for me is Dex 5mg and 1/4 Modafinil (every second day). The moda improves my memory and removes sleepiness/brain fog and the dex improves my adhd symptoms for around 3 hours. I wish it lasted all day.
My personality does not change - unlike Ritalin, Concerta, Vyvanse, where I become something other than my normal self. Note: I also had to change jobs to something more suitable to my core abilities. I was working behind a desk a lot and now I have a role that involves talking to customers and desktop work. A lot of variety. I am now working in a highly structured workplace, that also provides autonomy to do things as much or as little as you like. You are your own boss in a way, with all the structure and support to get things done (business development).
Lastly, following a routine (bed at same time/wake at same time) and arriving at work at the same time. Exercise 30 mins skating and push ups. This has been a recipe for success in my career where for 10 years I had been struggling.
