am thinking about this ? if its not possible to be referred by your doctor to a service thats not available in your area wouldn't it just be possible then to sort out a friends address that does live in that area and just go and register with a doctor in that area and take it from there? ?

I haven't checked before replying but almost 100pc sure I've read a few times that if they don't have anything in their area, they have to refer you outside. Think something to do with the disability discrimination act. Sure last time I read something was by Annie - look on her last few posts (maybe to furious frog ??) also think planet Dave wrote something similar to Manson. Also think there's something on the proper aadduk web site. Caution - adhd advice - could have remembered it all wrong! Surely can't be that hard for you to be referred cos you're so near the maudsley? ? When. I was searching net for me, I found my new CCG's website (clinical commissioning group), which was also linked to the old PCT (what was there before the changes this April). I did a search within their pages for adhd and it said that Kent had lost the contract and now Maudsley had it. So there might be some reference to how they deal with it on your local one. Start with pct barnet (or wherever you are - barnet springs to mind) and see what comes up. Also, my drs surgery's web site mentions on it about the CCG they're in. If you have the info, it'll make it easier to argue case of course, also lets them know you're not going away. Such an ridiculous arse you have to think of these things - am annoyed and frustrated with you from afar xxx

I thought about doing something similar, but it is a very long way to my nearest clinic, and once you are registered in that area, you would have to go there for everything and transferring back might be complicated. Presumably, given that you're in the London area, there are lots of surgeries to choose from? How far are you from the area where they do refer? Would it be easy to get to for regular appointments?

Prescribing difficulties aside, my report said about follow up appt with adhd nurse at maudsley. I had a call yday arranging for a nurse to call me today to see how I was getting on (as opposed to making me go there of course)... With the caveat that everywhere just seems to be soooo different of course, it might not mean repeated trips ??

thank jj
Kathy - its miles to maudsley from here anyway and am assuming initially all appointments would be with physc to sort everything and can get gp to send prescriptions if have to get them off gp to chemist to be picked up so wouldn't be a prob and then eventually when got right meds sorted just change address again and then as already been prescribed and being seen at maudsley surely they would have to carry on with treatment then or is that all too manipulative in my head and not really possible do you think. unfortunately as a single parent with mental health problems ( and having a child with same problems )but a strong will to survive I have become used to manipulating the system in my favour - even though I am not a born liar and hate having to do it!!!!

don't know if i'm going to or will need to do this yet but just to add that spoke to a friend that lives in wales yesterday and even though its not adhd related she needed a particular referral to eye clinic that they didn't have in her area and her gp told her she could come to london and temporarily register with a gp here - without leaving gp she was already with - apparently everyone can register temporarily with another gp in a different area if need to - and get referral to moorfields eye clinic for the treatment.
weird eh !!!
