So, I have to write my appraisal at work. This is always a dark time. It’s not a task I’m suited to at all. I’ve been panicking and procrastinating all day, and, y’know, all month really (you can read this post, itself, as procrastination if you like).
I’ve just started on meds – but only a very cautious dose of 5mg mph, which does nada, nothing, zip – I was really hoping to be on something stronger by now – if nothing else but to help me writing this hellish document. Unfortunately I don’t see the doc again till Friday morning and the deadline for submitting is … Friday morning.
It’s that lifelong story of dear-god-how-have-I-left-this-to-the-last-minute-AGAIN?
Luckily my (direct) boss is pretty understanding and knows about my diagnosis, but even he won’t overlook me not actually writing the freaking thing.
… this is just whining really. Soz

Writing your own appraisal? Whatever next. Get them to write it and you can approve/reject

I know - it's cruel and unusual to have to write your own - Gotta remember what I actually did during the year, be positive about it and, y'know, focus and actually write that down coherently. None of which are natural strengths. Still, no-one's going to do it for me.
Ach, it'll be fine. (And yes, KM, the internet will be off)

For every BSL (British Sign Language) assessment we have had to do at uni over the past two years, there has had to be an accompanying video self-assessment. They really are the most excruciating kind of torture. Can't imagine having to self-assess an entire year's performance.

I think you should phone up HR and tell them you're having difficulties with it and whether they can help you full-fill your obligation to complete the review.

Yeah - I'm a bit nervous of letting HR know about this stuff. My boss knows 'cause he's sound, but I'm a bit dubious about extending the number of work people that know.
It's fine anyway - it's done (and I only submitted it 5 days late and well after we had the actual appraisal meeting ...)

Ha - thanks missus. I did end up being relatively positive (about myself, at least). Yep - started on mph about 3 1/2 weeks ago. My docs being pretty cautious - she's not a psychiatrist, she's just a GP, so I'm okay with that. At least she's on board. So, she started me on 5mg 3x a day, and then I was on that for 2 weeks and had to see her again to make sure I hadn't exploded or anything. And now after seeing her again she's letting me bump up the dose weekly so long as a keep checking my blood pressure. And I'll see her again when I'm up to 20mg. I'm on 15 mg now, and up to 20 next week. Quick summary: 5mg = nothing 10mg = Mostly nothing, maybe a ghost of feeling slightly sharper, but nothing practical 15mg = Still doesn't really do anything. Got a bit headachey on the first day, and a bit anxious yesterday, but I think that's unrelated. I'm a relatively big guy though, so maybe all of this is just too low. Baby's not here yet - it's about 3 and a half weeks till the due date, so in theory anything after this weekend isn't premature. Are we ready? Aiiiiiiiiiiii!
