I just went to pharmacy with prescription for Ritalin and was told by the dude there that he couldn't get me that as Ritalin has been discontinued. He told me I would have to go back to dr and get another prescription for generic drug.
Thing is I've moved for new job recently which I probably half only got because of the meds and now live a long way away from psych and in a place with bad transport connections. Add that to running out of medication and I'm useless at getting out the door so leaving early enough so i'm able to get back the same day is pretty difficult. I ended booking a cab there to get this prescription (cost £80) and got public transport back. Now I'm being told its not worth the paper its written on. Bugger.

I'd be interested to hear whether you find out anything else - it seems I'm quite susceptible to subtle differences in brands and, while I've not tried ritalin yet, that was one of the brands on my list to try to take to drs - so good to know if it no longer exists.... Update if you find out anything further then x

Update:
While I was at work my mother (bless her) phoned up three pharmacies where I live and two of them said yes its been discontinued and a third said their supplier has a small amount left so If I went by 12 noon today I might be able to get some.
As this was not possible my mother phoned Dr's secretary who apparently phoned the company who manufacture Ritalin who had no idea what the pharmacies were on about. Apparently one now has ordered some and so I should be able to get it tomorrow night. Although They have ordered too little so they are going to have to order some more which will delay things by another day. Boo.
They could not say why the incorrect information had been given before.

Holy cow this scared me! Looking at the Bulletin though, mph is the generic form of Ritalin, in this instance made by Mallinckrodt. That is what has been discontinued. Ritalin is made by Novartis and there's no bulletins etc about that. Btw Ritalin is cheaper than mph.

Nightmare, spok - my sympathies! Can't you get it swapped for generic mph if it's going to be that difficult to get any?

Not been discontinued for my Mum, although if there are shortages that's a little worrying. Was really hoping to switch from concerta to ritalin.

It's been a bit... well, not great, really. Am really sorry I posted and ran but have been embroiled in lots of arguments with my pct (well, CCG now) and have just had IFR for treatment refused. :/ How are you getting on? Hopefully you've been good? Feel like I'm about to spend my evening catching up on the last 2 years here!
