Hi peeps. Been doing medded life ok so a rare return visit. I saw a BBC news article link: m.bbc.co.uk/news/health-23972137Interesting link between ADD and ear problems. I remember having my adenoids out at 6 over hearing and ear problems. that reminded me of an old thread on this site. It just shows that scientists and medics should listen to us more. Here`s the thread aadduk.proboards.com/thread/2654/prone-ear-infections

Yup, gromits in and adenoids out when I was 7, daughter had the same op when 4. It does not surprise me as my behaviour problems were put down to my hearing. Very interesting.

Plagued by ear infections for entire childhood - almost felt half-dressed without oil-soaked balls of cotton wool in each ear They stopped at about 13 to be replaced by regular and frequent bouts of tonsillitis,... for 5 years, my veins were half blood / half amoxicillin Son with ASD has always had ear-infections - almost 15 now and got yet another one coming tonight... He would startle at the smallest thing when he was younger yet completely ignore it when someone was talking to him directly, especially if engrossed in something. Had his hearing tested and was told that his hearing was perfect, but the messages weren't being processed in his brain properly - and they said could happen with lots of ear infections... Obviously adhd and ASD are commonly co morbid. He's def not adhd, but he does share some of our difficulties in processing information, planning and organising.... You're completely right about listening to us.... If I was researching a disorder, I'd go and look on forums to see what initially seemingly unrelated things a lot of them mentioned...

I had a perforated ear drum for about 14 years before it actually healed.
As a result, I suffered countless ear infections (1 a month!) and grommets in both ears.
When I turned 17 they stopped and my ear drum healed! However, last year (when I was 20) I had an ear infection for over a month, quite probably the worst I'd ever had.
Didn't have hyperactivity though.
Also had slow speech development where I would say things incorrectly. Although, my actual hearing seemed to always be fine on the tests!
Looking back, perhaps I was getting distracted and not listening properly.

I also had my tonsils and adenoids out when I was very young. Don't recall ever having a ear infection although there is a *lot* of it in the family...
