Oh my goodness, if I had paranoia as well as ADHD, I'd swear someone had been following me my whole life making notes, and this is their summary....
This link should be on the front page of the main website - there's a section called women and ADHD there.

I do wonder how many women are sitting around with undiagnosed ADD, knocking back the Citalopram, wondering WTF things aren't getting better...

I sort of want to cry after reading that - it's all so true.
Especially the relationship thing, where I've had a choice of guys (I know, right! Those days are long over!) I always went for the highly organized, ultra capable types. Even if I couldn't related to them...I kind of just want to be organized in every aspect of my life! Not a prized female trait really is it...

I don't know why this has been moved to the women's board. That article basically describes exactly how I've felt for the last 15 years, and last time I checked "downstairs" I still had 2 balls and a penis.

I definitely identify with this bit; "The "High Maintainence" look is not for her. She has too much trouble keeping track of jewelry, make-up, and all the parts of the outfit. Organizing hair, nail, facial appointments--too much!" I have never been to a hair dresser. I either do it myself, or get my Mum to do it! I don't usually wear make-up, partially because I seem to be allergic to it (I wore eye shadow at the Christmas party 2 weeks ago and one of my eyelids is still scabby and sore ) but also because it's so much hassle! It takes so long to put on, and I know I'll only smudge it and look silly anyway! Too much fuss. I'd rather look *alright* than high maintenance!

I get my 11 year old son to do mine Hairdressers : : 1) people getting in my personal space 2) people trying to engage me in small talk 3) people who spend A WHOLE HOUR blow-drying my hair when it was dry after 2 minutes - 10/10 on the impatience scale

I used to cut my own and have lots of little scars on my hands as a result of being a complete klutz. I gave up cutting it out of boredom and the desire for an easier life. These days, it's so long it's no longer that easy but now I'm vain about it and don't want to cut it. And how do you grow the dye out of hair that's five years long? It's going to have to go one day!

Oh my....so glad I read that article. I wish I had heard more about ADHD sooner in my life - rather than muddling through my life only to get to the age of 44 and having a drug rep come to us to talk about Strattera, and thinking "I have each and every one of those symptoms, to a marked degree, and more". It makes me sad that I have struggled so much and got not as far as I should have done.
I have had initial screening last week and have been told by the nurse specialist that it is 'almost certain' that I have ADHD...now I await the consultant. If he doesn't diagnose me, I wouldn't know where to go next for help. I have learnt to compensate so well over the years for parts of my serious and chronic disorganisation that people have not really noticed I have all the symptoms. If I dont get diagnosed, I feel I need to give up as the uphill struggle is too great.

If you can afford to go private, there's a highly recommended (by folks on here) and very reasonably priced (£250, I think) chap in Essex called Dr Chad. Do a search for his name on here if you're interested.

PBG....the Maudsley nurse said the same to me.....that was 5 months ago....I have had Appt with pysch and now await neuropsychological testing.......ZZZzzzzzzz

In fact I think it's been my version of the band that kept playing on the deck of the sinking ship Titanic

I was trying to think if I have a band playing.
Funnily enough, I settled on my boat. It's always tidy (if not clean) because it's the most beautiful thing in the world and I love it and want it to look its best.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so down, Purple. Sounds like a really stressful time with so many areas of your life in upheaval.
I've rented a few places in the past that have been sold from underneath me. It's a horrible situation, having to keep somewhere looking neat and tidy when it's not for your own benefit.
Hope things improve. Do you have a new place lined up yet or is that the next stressful thing that's going to happen?

No wonder you're not happy. In my experience, not having a secure home is the worst kind of stress. Add to that the potential pitfalls for an ADHDer of having to change GPs and it's so much worse. And the loss of privacy must be horrible.
Could you ask your GP if he'd be willing to keep you on the books, even if you moved? Or tell him that wherever you move to is temporary and you need to stay at that surgery until further notice?

it's really awful having people look at *my* stuff. Every photographer that has come through always moves things around a little and that really pisses me off. They don't even have the respect to put things back as they were. *grumpy* I understand this purplepower and I feel for you..... hope things are more positive soon x x x
