Sometimes i make myself cringe...and giggle...and then cringe some more...and,well,you get the idea. Decided to start sanding the doorframes in the hall today,so i got out my belt sander, plugged it in,and got stuck into it. I thought i was doing a fantastic job.... until my wife pointed out that maybe i should've put sheets over some stuff,or shut a door or two,or even attached the dust collecting bag onto the belt sander It looked like a blizzard had swept through the ground floor of my house! both of my dogs had to be bathed and brushed! EVERYTHING in the kitchen had to be wiped off...and i mean everything, stuff on the worktop,on shelves, the clean dishes on the drainer, all the clean clothes on the airer had to go back through the wash! About an hour of sanding, and i've only just now finished 3-ish hours of cleaning up the mess i made. What's that saying about "proper preparation...etc"? I am a menace.

OMG! I'm just the same. My OH has an annoying way of raining on my parade when I'm getting stuck in to a job by telling me to get organised and plan and prepare first. Given that he's even more ADHD than I am, it's pretty irritating to have him show me the 'right' way to do things. I have to admit, however, that his repeated lectures bore fruit recently, when I spotted myself on the verge of rushing into a painting job, and asked him to hold me back and help me prepare properly. As a result, our lovely new wood floor survived my splatty painting style unsullied. Mind you, his ADHD comes to the fore when he starts wielding power tools - he hates having to measure and mark, preferring to do things 'by eye'. I run around calculating centre points to the millimetre, and checking everything with a spirit level. You can guess the rest... Amazingly, our house doesn't look too bad...

Luckily, I don't have an other half to have a go at me when I forget to protect things from sanding dust/paint drips/aerosol overspray. Unfortunately, I'm more than capable of tearing myself off a strip when it happens. Also, had to relegate yet another pair of jeans to the work-clothes pile this week, cos I convinced myself that I didn't need to get changed for this tiny bit of painting ...

Jan - I only do zip ups now. I used to struggle with button flies, give up and mean to do them later only to forget. Which isn't a good idea.
Grim - Agree with the DIY nightmare. I can start a job with the intention of covering furniture etc, only to get carried away and get everything covered in grime. Justifiably drives my wife mad, but she's too kind to say anything. Poor woman having to put up with me over the years
Kathymel - OMG that is so me ----> "Also, had to relegate yet another pair of jeans to the work-clothes pile this week, cos I convinced myself that I didn't need to get changed for this tiny bit of painting"

not that i'm a hoarder or anything Yep, this is where my OCD kicks in too. Find it really difficult to throw anything away Have been trying to do the house uf for years, but cr*p just gets in the way (promised myself to 10:30 on here. I bet I overrun - procrastination, lack of productivity)

I could open a chain of jeans shops with what I have in my cupboards and loft - and that's after having moved 4 times in a year last year - so having a clear out each time Jeans, bags, shoes and pyjamas.... Just can't seem to throw any out
