Why is there always a 'but'?
After the third visit and a letter my gp has told me they have sent a referral request to Bristol ADHD clinic for me to be assesed. I walked out of there on a high I haven't felt for weeks, maybe even months. At last! Someone is taking me seriously.
This however came crashing round my ears when I rang the clinic to confirm their receipt of said referral. Nope, nothing. My gp had told me it was sent last week so there is a chance if it was sent Friday they wouldn't have received it by Monday. As they only review referrals on a monday morning I now have to wait a WHOLE GODDAM WEEK to find out if they've recieved it.
To add to this, I was asked if the gp had asked me questions about my relevant history... Nope. Did he enclose the self reporting questionnaire? Nope, I did one myself and took it in first visit. He took it, glanced at the cover then handed it back without reading the contents. To which I was informed if he has merely requested referral with no supporting evidence it will be bounced back.
I now have a week of suspense. I don't do suspense...
Meh!

Good luck.
The Bristol ADHD clinic is great and you'll be in good hands as Dr. Badat is utterly amazing.
Edit: Protip: When you go in for your diagnosis, be 100% completely honest and open about any-and-everything. It's rather in depth, so it can be a little tempting to be less than forthcoming with more personal details/matters.

Would it be worth jumping the gun on this and getting another appointment with your GP now? Tell him exactly what the clinic said and explain what they need to see with the referral. Get another one sent off before the first refusal arrives.

It's not our strong point is it? Feel fed up for you .....but nearly there, not too much longer.....and knowing that you're going to someone who really knows what they're talking about, well that's just brilliant....and worth a tiny, weeny, little wait...remember that great, elated feeling....it's still there

well done donkeykebab - it's all progress, even if the direction is not always linear

Get another one sent off before the first refusal arrives. I was tempted KM, but I am in danger of wearing my docs patience a bit thin, and I have to keep him on side. I think I'd better sit on my hands for this one. I know my own ability at getting doors slammed in my face for questioning/criticising authority (and not knowing when to stop) Curtis - Inappropriate frankness is my speciality

I know my own ability at getting doors slammed in my face for questioning/criticising authority (and not knowing when to stop) Grrr! They seem to forget sometimes that they are there at the service of their patients and that patients have a right to have a say in their own treatment. I know what you're saying and, yes, it is important to keep them onside, but we really shouldn't have to pander to their impatience.

Don't worry. ONCE I have my diagnosis I may have to point out how many missed opportunities there have been for doc's to spot the signs (read ignorance) and thus prolong my suffering. I will do my utmost to raise awareness at my local surgery at how EASY it is to slip through the net of diagnosis. I feel this might be more constructive than simply 'tearing him a new arsehole'

Agreed, but I have to learn that ripping peoples arms off and beating them with the soggy end is a trait that I should not pander to

Quick update...
Gave it a week, as advised by Bristol clinic, and rang them back (4th Feb). Yes! 'Referral received and response by Dr **** has been written to your GP. Can't say what contents are as it's on dictaphone awaiting typing'. Fine I thought. Had GP appointment booked for the 10th, so would wait to find out contents then...
Saw doc on Monday 10th... No reply received! Thought he was dragging heels. Rang clinic that afternoon to be told 'oh, it appears to be still waiting for typist'. Aaaaaaargh!
Now I have to wait ANOTHER BLOODY WEEK until I see GP next week.

I am hopefully seeing Dr Badat next week. Good to hear that he's recommended.

It took nine months from initial contact with gp to my actual assessment. I thought that was pretty good, but my gp made sure I didn't get my hopes up that it'd a quick process. I heard that some people wait 18 months plus :-(
