came across this blog post with a list of suggestions of how to cope with adhd and comorbid depression and anxiety - nice, gentle, easy to understand... in summary: * tune out the voices in your head that bring you down / beat you up; * accomplish something however small, it gets the dopamine going; * dump the news - we are already struggling, relentless media input is too much to bear (i REALLY get this one!!) * set up mood zones in your home space, to nurture/stimulate you in different moods; * give yourself respect - we all have strengths & struggles, it makes us human.

Definitely pertinent to the way I'm feeling today. 2 days off wallowing, a housemate who left the room then the house because she can't watch me self destruct and told me my friends have been talking and are likely to give up on me. Really hard to battle that, but you're right. I can't let my negativity win...

I certainly agree with "dump the news" - especially from (1) the mainstream media (BBC, CNN, ABC etc) who control what comes out and who manipulate the entire global news spectrum, (2) the doom and gloom merchants who tell us (1) are con men when they (2) are just snake-oil merchants themselves, and (3) the various amateur news wannabes who continually struggle with their own realities let alone the world's. I now try to stick to information that just affects me directly and zone out the rest. It can be difficult but is worth it. It used to be that I'd remonstrate with myself for not taking social "responsibility" for what happens in the world, and that in turn resulted in a form of "news addiction" As for PMQs, Question Time and all that disingenuous drivel; when once it captivated me, I now feel like tossing my shoes through the telly when they come on.

If its any use I recently tried St Johns Wort (Vitabiotics, quite a high dose) & it pulled me back from the brink in a day. Worth a shot, & a hell of a lot fewer side effects than an SSRI, with the same benefits. Non medical things dont seem to help me, as its hard to do what you need to when you are down. Its not called a vicious circle for nothing.

I suffer with depression and anxiety (caused by my prick of a supervisor), luckily I have a wonderful partner to support me and keep me from falling. Anti depressents help and knowing everyone else thinks he is a prick too!
