Attention Deficit Disorder/ADD Test In conjunction with other diagnostic techniques, Daniel G. Amen, MD. (publisher of MindWorks Press) says he "uses the [following] general adult attention deficit deficiency (ADD) checklist to help further define ADD symptoms. No ADD adult has all of the symptoms, but if you notice a strong presence of more than 20 of these symptoms, there is a strong likelihood of ADD." We gratefully acknowledge Dr. Amen for this valuable contribution to One ADD Place.
Your results indicate that it is likely you have ADD. Your results indicate that it is likely you have Over-focused ADD. Your results indicate that it is likely you have Temporal Lobe ADD. Your results indicate that it is likely you have Limbic ADD. Your results indicate that it is likely you have Ring of Fire ADD (what's that). Your test results indictate that it's unlikely that you have innatientive ADD ( Funny that's what I thought I had)

The problem with Dr Amen is that he's ploughing a lonely furrow - is he diagnosing ADHD?
If you aren't diagnosing according to the major diagnostic manuals then it's like having a degree from the University of North Cairo - nobody knows what it's worth - it could be a brilliant or worthless thing.
If the diagnosis doesn't conform then how can it be called ADHD - we have a convention that says these symptoms mean you have ADHD, if you aren't diagnosing according to those rules then how can you label it with the same name?
What exactly are ring of fire, over focused, limbic and temporal lobe ADD?
If you don't know the system that he's working to then it's not much use to the wider world, who have decided that DSM5 and, to a lesser extent, ICD10 are the standards we work to.
I'm in no way saying Dr Amen is full of BS - just full of his own system which is what it is.
An interesting divergence.

It's all here planetdave www.adhd-health.com/philosophy/adhd-6types-type4-6.php
He says that there are 6 types of ADD. (not 3) But as you say, he appears to be a lone voice in the medical fraternity.
Edit I noticed he's written quite a lot of books, perhaps he likes to make money, he appears to have shuffled the symptoms of ADD and dealt six hands instead of three, if you pardon the analogy.

In 2002, when I was jolted into looking at ADHD as a possible cause of my problems, Dr Amen's online tests were the only ones I could find - I still have those results in a drawer and they were the catalyst that got me into my GPs office. I owe him thanks for that. I worry about his credibility though. If his reasoning and methods are so good why weren't they incorporated into DSM5? It's not as if he's shy - there's plenty of published material on his website and in books and they've been there a long time. Is there professional jealousy, political considerations or a Dr Amen diagnosis too expensive/complicated for widespread use? I've not done the online tests again (ie now that I'm not so naive) but the results and explanations appear reasonable. It's the use of SPECT in diagnosis which worries me more - if it's any good why hasn't it become a 'gold standard'? Here's some knocking copy - some pros have taken issue with him Anti Dr Amen webpage

Yip same results here too. Also noticed that the ones i am likely to have are the ones meds don't work for - although a combination of something else does. I may be far too sceptical, but am wondering whether these other things need to be purchased only from his website? Was completing an application form at the same time, so forgot to check that out!
