I have recently been wondering whether the strange type of pmt i get might be related to add? i know most people seem to get negative symptoms, and i occasionally feel irritable and tearful and generally like i could yell at someone, but most months, i seem to get the opposite. It is usually the one time that i have lots of focused energy, get productive things done and feel confident and chilled. There have been times that i have been so focused that i have ended up scrubbing the oven, or painting a room late at night, cos i have been putting it off, then suddenly i have the focus to do it. my ex used to say i was like an animal making a nest, and i kind of agreed in a way, as i get such a strong urge to clean and tidy. Will last about 2 days, then wears off again and i am back to procrastination, distraction and overlooking stuff. do other people find a similar thing?

Hi
I used to get this, but it was followed by more traditional pmt symptoms. I did find out what it was I think it's due to a spike of a particular hormone probably estrogen, but it's fairly common, and I don't think restricted to ADD.

No, I get really scatty 3-4 days before my period. To the point that I just don't know what's going on, I cant focus on anything so I'm generally miserable and tearful. I spend most of my time sitting on the stairs- it's neither here nor there- that's why I sit there, it's a reflection of my mental state. I wish I was more like you

Lol inca - this is the third time I think that I'm writing 'me too' to one of your posts Exactly the same for me - I've not found many the same either - even amongst ADHDers - pre-meds, I would only properly function 24 days per year - and like you just said, random things like oven cleaning and painting etc would happen in the middle of the night... You're the first person I've heard describe exactly how it is for me!

I totally get this. Does anyone else get more uncoordinated? I usually just walk into random things but today I managed to reverse the car into a wall..

I've had the most bizarre week. Does anyone else feel like their forgetfulness and distractability and ability to pay attention is magnified around the time of their period? I feel like I've been walking round in a cloud with my eyes shut. I've missed 2 important meetings and an appointment, I've accidentally deleted an article I was writing before a deadline. I've chaired 2 meetings were ive not chaired at all (so easy to distract) and slept and played computer games. Oh and forgo to eat.
ive produced an important presentation ready for next week but honestly, I think I dreamt the whole thing up

Yes all the time Oestrogen has a positive effect on the left side of the brain that deals with organisation, when this drops adhd symptoms normaly get worse. Progesterone has an effect on the right side and its increase sets off more hyperactovity and impulsiveness. Oesyrogen has a stabilising effect on joint tissue, progesterone destabilising, so with oestrogen dropping and progesterone upping joints get loosers so we have poorer proprioception and get clumsier. It also increases pain for my hypermobile joingts. Theres also a small amount of relaxin released also to tell our cervix to open alittle to release blood and relaxin again has destablising effect on joints. If you can take it easy at this time, limit decsion making and big.deadlines or schedule for other times. Balacing hormones can help sm, I find the contraceptive yazmin a life saver and extra magnesium essential, thrres lots of other ones also. If you take stimulants you cd ask psych about a small increase the wk before your period to get you through if you cant take it easy. quote author=" astraka" source="/post/84782/thread" timestamp="1415438562"]I've had the most bizarre week. I start off with insane light sensitivity, headaches and cravings, then suicidal thoughts and not being able to sleep or eat and just going bonkers doing everything in the middle of the night (last time I stayed up and ironed at 4-5 in the morning) and then ends with being just beat and a sleep for a day or two. It's insane every time, in a single day I've counted over 25 symptoms.
I haven't really thought about the clumsiness (My legs are always blue, can't tell a differance), but I do fall a lot more often I think.
