OMG! I can soooo relate to this list... My paternal aunt is aspergers/autistic, and very 'strange', which is prob a very unPC thing to say... But it's true. So it's defo going to be in my genes...

I saw psych yesterday, and for the first time brought up about Aspergers in the light of above posts. She said she did think that I had aspergers when she listened to my mum talk about my childhood at assessment, but she doesn't think it now. She thinks all the problems I had as a child and with friendships are adhd, though not 100% sure. Her opinion is to treat the adhd, and then see what's left after that. She did say people with adhd struggle in life a lot -....that's for sure... I'm currently reading a book on Aspergers in women. It is describing me!! I feel my bipolar and adhd are both being successfully treated and managed. I've been well, stable and improving for 8 weeks. I guess 8 weeks doesn't sound long - but this has never happened in my life before, and for now at least, it feels solid.
I was reading back through this thread and had completely forgotten about my psychiatrist saying to treat the adhd and then see what's left after that. Well, I now know. It's Aspergers. But I feel excited about this because I can now learn about it and make changes accordingly. I'm finding it tremendously healing and liberating reading about Aspergers in the light of where I'm currently at - it's making so much sense of the 'stuff that's left over'. And with this knowledge I will be able to make better choices in the future - both in how I live and how I relate to people.

It's eerie how many of the point match with me. Guessing some of them could be crossover with ADHD though. And anxiety, actually. I can see why there'd be a risk of misdiagnosis!

mmmm... I was reading the list, that's me. Only 3 of the things listed don't apply at all... and another one is like "I hope not!" but I don't know, because it's about how others perceive me. What seems to differentiate ADHD from Asperger is the thing about empathy, from what I heard, but I feel even too much sensitive to others issues sometimes. Even a bit nosey sometimes I can actually loose a bit of empathy, if I'm very stressed or confused or focused about something. Well, not that I really loose empathy, but I become "slow at realizing", at least if the problem is non-critical or quite subtle to spot. Actually if I think aoout it, many of the aspie traits get a boost when I'm down, or overwhelmed.

Hello,
Newbie here. I've been a little overwhelmed reading this.
I have an ADHD assessment soon. I've only just discovered this forum today, and in a strange bit of synchronicity I sent this exact list to my psychiatrist this week. The reason I came across it is because whilst an ADHD diagnosis would make a lot of things make perfect sense there are some other, erm, aspects to my character which I do not understand at all, most of which were on that list.
It's really reassuring to realise I'm not alone in this, and as this is all new to me (seeking help, understanding what I thought were character flaws as something else) it's like having a veil lifted and being able to see more clearly. Which is a relief, I guess. If a little overwhelming. I'm 40, so this has all come as a little bit of a shock to me.

Interesting
I’m a man with ADHD and have 99% of that list 😏
What does that mean?!?!?!?
As many have said, adhd and asd are very closely related if not part of the same spectrum.
