HI All
I just wanted to know if anyone else has been sucked into gambling like i was. I only ask as i've come across a few things on the net suggesting gambling and especially compulsive/problem gambling has links with ADHD and that studies of problem gamblers showed a large percentage of them had either undiagnosed ADHD or ADHD traits.
I've always wondered why i've been drawn to fruit machines and other forms of gambling more then anyone around me that could gamble responsibly. What i've read is due to ADHD;ers short attention, so we're drawn to things that are fast paced, quick reward (if you ever win) and where we don't need to concentrate or pay attention for long i.e gambling and video gaming.
If i stay clear of it i'm fine but as soon as i dip my toe in that's it, all common sense and reasoning go out the window until my pockets or bank account is empty! Sometimes it feels like i'm heading for a car crash and even though i can see whats about to happen i don't stop in fact i sometimes press the accelerator until i inevitably crash, then think "why the f**k did i just do that!".
With the car crash analogy i actually do that with others things in my life, whereby even though i know i'm screwing something up and if i continue it will be completely screwed, yet i carry on with this knowledge and then think "WHY!" at the end!
Anyway let us know if you got what i meant about the weird car crash thing i explained and if it applies to anyone as i'm just interested to know if it's another 'me being sh!t' thing, like i thought was the case with many of the issues that i have until i found out they were actually to do with the ADHD.
Cheers
