I ended up on this forum courtesy of david@planetdave hello David. I'm very cautious of how much of myself diagnoses and going throught the process and getting it checked out. I ended coming accross adhd through a charity i volunteer for called Lifeshare in manchester, I noticed that lots of the clients were struggling with adhd and upon talking with them about they were interested in getting help and more awareness. So i found mancheter's self group and David. David agreed to come in and help do some one to one support ... at which time i heard more about adhd...add... and could't help but identify quite significantly with all symptoms but hyperactivity. So i thought about it then spoke to Dave and came on here. This morning i went to my doctors with wender utah test, list of symptoms and a bit of annotation, explained what i've said above and was pleasently surprised she agreed it was worth investigating. I was a bit taken back when she said she thought the "label of adhd wasn't important" in that she didn't think the diagnosis would be that helpfull... i didn't really know how to take this... I just kinda ignored it. But anyhow, apparently she said she'd been sent a recent memo from somewhere saying where to refer to. I'll add more when i hear back from them. Cheers

That's brilliant oram Well done you Looking forward to hearing more from your little diary....and more on your progress.... it's great that she is being helpful towards investigation....she also needs to realise that it's not just a label, it's a diagnosis but more than that, it has a profound effect on people's lives, the ability to change the way they perceive themselves, both in the past, but more importantly, in the future good luck with it x x x

If it's the GP I suspect it is she's had her arse kicked around the surgery over a previous friend of mADDchester so don't expect anything more than following the rules. I could be wrong (might be another surgery ) but it remains that it's just the opinion of a GP - the label may or may not be significant but I found it helpful, which it frequently is when there are unsolved mysteries about how differently you function.

It was ashville surgery and a doctor bowley. She seemed nice enough, said she'd follow it through, whatever that means and someone would be in touch. I'm gonna call back in a week or so and see exactly what she's done.
