For whatever reason you want to imagine I spent 10 days in Bootham park hospital. Ive got ADHD and Aspergers and my domestic life was chaos and I was scaring my family..i was off the rails.
You can do anything you want in Bootham, even nip up to Clarence street and score whatever you want which many did.. Speed was the preferred drug for many and that seemed to be ok with the nurses because I'm sure they are not stupid or blind. The food is out of this world and as much as you want.
After 4 days I had an assessment in a large cosy room in front of about a million pounds worth of salaried professionals , 7 of them. Their notes came from the observations of the psychiatric nurses who never actually talked with any of us ...it was pure observation and from this they wrote fantastical reports about the condition and needs of us , the clients. In my case the problem seemed to me to be my impulsive actions and the trouble this lead me to and problems with communications which meant I could never explain these actions properly and the frustration and anxiety this caused....for me this has been a lifetime problem. This might sound familiar.
What an ideal environment to at least develop some coping mechanisms don't you think?
I explained this in the 4th day assessment and was told ward 2 was an acute ward but I could stay until the next assessment (maybe I wasn't scoring enough drugs)
During the following time I approached all the nurses and not a single one knew anything about ADHD or Aspergers.
The next assessment both the ADHD diagnoses ( Maudsley Hospital ! ) and the Asperger diagnoses (St. Georges, Sheffield) were questioned as probably wrong and the probable cause of my "problems" was sexual abuse , and narsistic personality and I just needed clear boundaries to be able to "toe the line"
For the record I have never been sexually abused and even if I had I doubt very much that experience would lead me to develop a narsistic personality.
WTF
The only place you will get any help for your "ways" is from sites like this and not from professionals chancing their arms to justify their existence. We have to help each other because there is sweet FA out their on o practical level
Has anyone else had to deal with armchair psychologists masquerading as professionals?
Oh and beware the police , they will use your ADHD as an excuse for a punch up......and that is another thread for later.
Be cautious and be safe...your intelligence will make you a target
