Hopefully starting Concerta next week, has anyone here combined Concerta with an anti-depressant ? Not been prescribed any presently but considering asking my GP for some. Seems Concerta can react with Amitriptyline / Citalopram / Doxepin / Fluoxetine / Nortriptyline / Paroxetine / Sertraline and others ?
A search on another site says a pure SSRI such as prozac, lexapro, zoloft, paxil might be the answer although a low-dose start
Anyone any experience ?

I was told that Concerta XL is also a form of anti depressant on its own, so I stopped my citalopram to start the concerta and didn't ask for a replacement that is more compatible.
I've asked for some help there and my GP. Suggested mood stabilisers, but truth be told I haven't started them yet as I am worried I'll loose all the great the concerta does for me.
Will maybe revisit this again when life's a bit less hectic.

Concerta isn't an AD but can act as one because you feel better when your functioning improves - and any stimulant should give you a small lift, even coffee does that.

I used to get SAD quite badly, but last August I started taking Concerta XL and I didn't get SAD last winter, and I didn't need my SAD light either.
This could mean 1. SAD is ADHD related 2. Concerta XL treats SAD symptoms
I used to get depressed because I felt I was only performing about 10% of my potential and couldn't break the cycle of procrastination. Now I tend to do things as they occur which means I am much closer to 70-80% potential, which means I get frustrated less and less with not being able to do things.
This has had a knock-on impact on my feelings of depression. All purely anecdotal of course, but it would be interesting to get a few more viewpoints for comparison.

3 having your ADHD treated can launch you into a virtuous circle of better MH ->better physical->better MH
After a while your defences against SAD will be good enough so its effects are reduced
