does anyone else have music constantly playing in their heads? for me it's usually a song i hear that morning on the radio, and it will stay playing in my head in a loop all day long. It even stays while i'm doing other things, almost like a base beat - sometimes it distracts me, sometimes it keeps me going. I've had this all my life but since i started taking the adhd meds, the songs play faster and faster, and i'm more aware of it and it's becoming annoying...

yup. always got music in my head. often i sing along without even noticing... my default is to be singing, which helps me concentrate. i often forget that other people don't, and they look at me strangely. my daughter is the same, and will even sing while talking on the phone. there are a fair few threads on this in the last year or so - i'll see if i can find one - you are definitely not alone

Phew! I mean, I don't actually sing it out loud, its just singing it in my head and tapping my fingers on one hand as if playing it on a tiny piano, or taping my feet to the beat as i 'sing' (as it were). I cannot stop or control it even when i know i'm doing it... Would be great to see the other threads you mention on this!

Sorry to hijack, but this just reminded me. Do you ever find yourself subconsciously singing/thinking/whistling a song that acts either as a commentary to what you're doing, is related to what your doing or often could be a subconcious hint about how you're feeling? Though you only realise the link after you've been singing it for a while.
If anyone is sad enough (like me) to be familiar with Homes Under the Hammer. It's pretty much the same thing they do with the soundtrack.

danherts yes!! It's exactly like homes under hammer (which is my absolute favourite guilty pleasure!) It sounds so ridiculous, and it's not like I 'choose' the song that comes on in my head, it just happens subconsciously. A song I hear in the morning is the default, but throughout the day it might switch according to what i'm doing like you said. Writing this, I feel like i'm a mentalist, and i'm amazed i'm not the only one!

We're all mentalists.. the problem associated with this is a pervasive debilitating disorder called Mentalist Normalcy Denial Syndrome.. I've recently cured myself of it (by singing loudly with pride) and I feel much better for it!

I'd appreciate any tips on this because it's tricky trying to explain to my work chums why I've been found singing The Lion King or humming the theme tune to a show I've never watched. Again.

The song to super Mario has been swimming about my brain recently. I whistle it, hum it, make up my own computer noise to it! Probably sound completely mad to those around me but I don't really notice I'm doing out loud. Come to think of it, it's become more noticeable now I'm happier in my work. My self talk has also turned to rhyming and I add some hip hop beats to it. If you saw me walking down the street it'd look like I was listening to music! My mum is the same and my grandad. I've noticed that I have difficulty expressing myself and find creativity a good way of doing that. It's quite eccentric and I'm learning that I need to find more people who are eccentric. Got to stop trying to be like the nt's!
