Thought I'd sign up and start a diary just in order to track what's happening with me
I'm 43 years old, been "weird" all my life according to everyone who has known me - including the OH. I went onto the embarrassing bodies website and did their test for ADHD which said I was high risk of inattentive ADHD. I found a questionnaire online which had questions for both adult and as a child, and I ticked pretty much every item of every section of the inattentive half. Looks like I'm onto something. This was all in the last week or so, so I'm right at the start of what is hopefully a tunnel with a light...
I also suspect this has caused severe depression which I've had for decades
As for the journey, I seem to have 2 problems: 1. I'm in Scotland. Adult ADHD care in Scotland according to this website appears to be almost non-existent 2. I wasn't raised in this country, so the part about bringing in a parent for the GP appointment is impossible
Anyway, I've asked some questions, and pending those answers I'll be contacting my GP for an appointment and will take it from there
Apologies if this is waffle, I'm doing it more as a place to keep a track of what I'm doing, and how I'm getting on. Might even eventually be of help to others if my progress is positive. At this stage I dont think I need to air exactly how I feel - I've managed to hide it (well, not really) for most of my life

I'm confused
Just got back from a 2 day conference. Our team is spread out all over the UK so we only meet up once a year if that. At the hotel, vast quantities of alcohol were consumed
At one point in the evening, for the first time in probably 10 years or more, I found myself laughing. Not fake, or polite, or forced, and it only lasted a few seconds but I actually laughed. In fact it happened again later in the evening
Now, this is coinciding with an extremely painful time in my relationship - about as bad as it can get. The thing is, if I can laugh, does that mean there's nothing actually wrong with me?

Got my appointment with my GP this afternoon to see if I can persuade him to refer me. Feeling very anxious. I keep thinking he's going to look at me as though I'm daft

Appt at 17:30. Physically shaking now, but I've done alot of that recently for some reason. I think perhaps me accepting that something is wrong, and admitting that to myself, seems to have turned me into a worse mess than normal

Wow, wasn't expecting that. Got seen a quarter hour early. Asked the Dr what he knew about adult ADHD, ended up he's referring me to the NHS psychiatrist for evaluation, and this psychiatrist has an interest in adult ADHD
He did say it could take a number of weeks, but that the psychiatrist does weekly batches

It's been a really bad week or so. I have depression as well as the probably ADHD. The depression side has been pretty damn bad but I'm trying to wait patiently for word of the referral
I checked the FAQ, and the problem now is I dont know whether to chase my GP for progress, or just wait

Hi itwayne Sorry you're feeling depressed at the moment, it's hard when you're waiting for a referral... I don't think it'd do any harm to call your GP and ask if a letter has been sent yet. If it has then you can call the place directly and ask how long their waiting list is, at least then you'll have some idea of what's going on and time scales. And if it hasn't been sent yet, that'll be a reminder to them to get the letter done

Thanks JJ
Just phoned my GP, who sent it on the 16th. Phoned referrals and they received it today. She asked me to phone back next Wednesday to give her time to find out which Dr will be assigned to me, but by then it should be within a month that I'm seen

I was having a bad time of it recently - dark depression. Ended up walking out of work yesterday and got an emergency appt with my GP who referred me to the psych nurse. She phoned me just now, said I'd already been given a slot for 10th November, but since i was in such a bad way they've moved it up to this Friday AM

So I went to see the psych Dr on Friday. Unfortunately since I'm rather low at the moment, he said he was going to ignore the ADHD right now, and concentrate on my current mood. I'm on Citalopram in the morning, and Chlorazepam at night. He'll make me a follow up appointment for 4-6 weeks time to see how I am, and hopefully then we can look at the ADHD. He does have a keen interesting in adult ADHD though, so hopefully I'm with the right person

I'm so sorry to hear you are feeling so low, and I hope the medication kicks in soon to good effect for you.
It must be frustrating to have to wait to deal with the ADHD, but it sounds as though your psychiatrist is engaged with the issues and it's good you have a definite date for your next appointment. Hope to hear good news for you soon.

Thanks pelargonium. The Clorazepam didn't work so my GP doubled the dose. That din't work either so she changed it to Zopiclone which after about a week seems to be helping me to sleep. I take it at about 8:30 pm and can usually drop off before midnight most days now. I hardly wake up in the night. I was waking up half a dozen times a night
Seeing my GP as a follow up on Friday coming up, and for repeat prescriptions for the Citalopram and hopefully to continue something to help me to sleep. I forgot to take that last night and got hardly any sleep
Also got a follow up with the psych Dr on the 4th December too. Hopefully he'll start to address the ADHD this time, not just the depression
