Well there I was this morning, moping around in my personal diary on here, feeling like the day might as well have not started. I had tried phoning the GP, Waverly (MHT) and the ADHD clinic answering service. I had resigned myself to at least the morning staring out at the outside world, just wondering how the others out there do it? My phone rings, a private number. I don't normally answer private numbers but I am waiting for a call back from the doctor (apparently you can only get to see a doctor if you are dying!), so I answered it and it was the ADHD clinic, they have offered me an appointment for this Friday (yes I really am two smileys happy) I'm off to the doctors on Thursday to look through my childhood records. So it's perfect timing. So this is it, this Friday at this time I will be on the way to knowing for sure and hopefully get something sorted out or at least start on my journey to...... (was going to write normality there but don't think that'll ever happen)

How do you see your childhood records? I would like to see mine before my appt... I've had so many broken bones over the years due to doing some crazy things as a child, i wonder whether my records would help support the diagnosis process? will the psychiatrist have access to the records anyway? Hope your appointment goes well and its as quick a process as some peoples on here !

HI smogz101I just had to make an appointment with an administrator at the doctors surgery. I asked about the ADHD clinic getting hold of them for me but they explained that whilst they could get any digital records, my childhood records are good old paper notes, so I have to sit there and go through them. I was told that they could make copies for me for a small charge. But I think if I find anything I guess the clinic can request to see any paper records if I find anything useful. I don't know how much difference it will make getting a diagnosis but I'm hoping that now the ball is rolling, the process will move quite quickly.

Congratulations! I hope all goes well for you on Friday.
I wonder if my childhood records (born 1949) even still exist.

I wonder if my childhood records (born 1949) even still exist. As far as I am aware all your medical records are kept until you die. I have been told that they will be mostly paper notes, so doctors handwriting is going to be a challenge, but it is definitely worth checking it out. I have been searching out my old school reports today, I was quite disappointed to find only 1 primary school report, but every section mentions lack of concentration and ease of distraction. Also found quite a few from secondary school saying much the same. I also remember going to see a worker at social services when I was about 15 years old, so I am going to see if there is anything I can get from them. And to make sure they have as much information as possible I have asked them to contact Waverly to get my years of records from them. And have contacted Waverly and asked them to forward my notes to the clinic, hopefully between them they can get them there. I'm just hoping for some sleep between now and then!

hey chaoticwitch i hope that your record-trawl went well, and that your appointment goes even better i'll be crossing my fingers for you. let us know how you go Thank you. The doctors notes from my childhood were not particularly useful, they were mainly a scrawl in fountain pen and they were only a few words for each appointment! I think I would need to be a handwriting expert to decipher what was written. But it was very interesting going through previous referrals to various mental health teams over the years, which did bring up a few, long forgotten/repressed memories. I don't think I will be getting much sleep tonight, the combination of excitement at finally feeling like I am getting somewhere and the anxiety at the thought of getting there on time, finding the place and fear that this might not be the answer are going to keep me awake.

Well I'm off in about half an hour. I've found it on 3 maps, seen it from the satellite view, programmed it into the sat nav and put the number on my phone.
What could possibly go wrong!!!!

What a journey that was, I asked my son to come with me because I was feeling panicky about the drive. He sat in the back of the car with his girlfriend and then put his music on, thrash metal isn't the easiest thing to listen to when your hearts already pounding out of your head. So started this with me shouting and my son sulking!!!
Finally got there (a little late) and ended up in there for about 15-20 mins where he told me that I have had a diagnosis for ADHD, and he will happily put me back on the concerta.
So that's it, I've got another appointment in 3 weeks time to check meds but he already knows that the last time I was on the medication I was up at 54mg per day, they've started me on 18mg a day but I imagine it'll go up to where it was. I asked him about the crash and he suggested I took them later in the morning.

there are quite a few threads about a teatime/early evening crash when taking concerta xl, and many people have been advised to take an instant release top up in the evening. it would seem to be almost standard practice... have a wee browse, i'm sure there are posts and links to back 'em up
