I was wondering if it's just me or are some of us ADHD types a little more prone than others to mishear lyrics? I do it more often than not. I DJ but I also have the worst memory in the world for recalling a track name, which makes it a certain kind of 'seat of the pants' fun. (Granted, a lot of this music has no lyrics but still.) Even my favorite bands suffer from my inability to pay attention to lyrics carefully. 18 years of fandom and I still blank out on song titles.
And of course... tell me your misheard lyrics! I've gone blank (again) but will be back.

It actually says: "There goes my hero, he's ordinairyyyy!"
I like mine better lol!

Haha bee!
Hurts - Mercy
What I hear "Don't cry machine."
But surprise surprise it 's "Don't cry mercy."
And to make it better. They spell it out then "M-E-R-C-Y." And I have always heard that bit as "Hey! Leave Us Alone!"

When I was a kid I thought Tina Turner sang; "what's love Dr dolittle?"
Also thought the beetles sang; "put me in the sky with dad"
There's probably more but those are the ones that stick out.

Manics - "You stole the sun from my arse"
For maximum impact, bellowed loudly along to the radio, when stopped at a red light, with windows fully open..... here we go!
"You stole the sun from... You stole the sun from.... My aaah-aah-arse....."

I remembered another one! Wham, Last Christmas - "this year, to save my frontiers, I'll give it to someone special" Lol You've now ruined my all-time favourite Christmas song forever! Every year, I fondly get out my special edition 7" vinyl record, with its glossy storybook photo story of Santa George and Rudolph Andrew cavorting in the snow. I've know ALL the words since I was 11 years old, and now my childhood is ruined. RUINED, I tell you!!

You stole the sun from.... My aaah-aah-arse....." Haha! The Manics have some of my most ridiculous misheard lyrics. It's the way JDB crams the lyrics into the melody. Like Australia for example. "I want to bow down until it hurts, slip in a hole and say 'no birds'. In Australia!" Actually... so chronic that some of my mates and I ended up just rewriting as many Manics songs as we could to be about food. Sculpture of Flan. You Stole the Bun from my Tart. Motor Paneer Emptiness. La Tristessa Duerrera, Ice-cream and pie - I -I. Pie-I-i-... And so on.

I bought the album when it first came out in teh early 90's and still this - "Find your faith in your security All broken up at seventeen" "Find your faith in your security A broken Knob at seventeen." Terrible I know.

Avenged Sevenfold - The River
I heard "baptised in the river"
As "backsides in the river"
Labrynth - Beneath Your Beautiful
I heard "I'm gonna climb on top your ivory tower"
As "I'm gonna try and suck your right big toe"

Another one:
The Cure - Six Different Ways
I always thought it said, "It was Emma cried like this before."
But it is, "It was never quite like this before."

Just been reminded of this one as it came on the radio at work. Alanis Morisette - You Oughta Know.
I always sing "It's not fair to remind of the cross-eyed bear that you gave to me." And I remember for the longest time thinking it the most bizarre lyric BUT that I could totally understand how frustrating it might be to receive a cross-eyed bear from a loved one. I mean I personally would cherish it, misshapen misfit reject of a toy. That's right up my street. And maybe she thought at the time it was so very sweet he got her the broken one because it was different from the rest. Unique off the production line. And boy, how they must have laughed and shared that moment so tenderly. But I can also see how some might think it was a symbol of how little attention the significant other was paying at the time. Buying a defective toy to make up for fooling about. Couldn't even get that right. Unholy Barsteward.
But anyway it's "The cross I bear." So I guess all my time musing on it was for naught. (Except for now recounting it in too much detail. Woooo!)
