Hey so I have worked at my company since May 2015 was made perm in October. My team have always known I have ADHD I'm not treated any differently and always make jokes etc and not offended with the light hearted humour in my office however ..... Workload has increased due to the time of year and will be expected to continue until April. This is something that we all knew was coming however I'm contracted to work 37 hours a week and last week I worked 46. As did everyone else. Now here is the problem.
My team are all hardworking and committed as an I however my medication last 7 hours and I literally cannot function anymore. I cannot endure 12 hour days with a journey home of an hour.
How do I approach this ? I'm afraid that people with think I'm using my ADHD as an excuse but this aside no one has mentioned toil or overtime pay. It's not about the money it's just the times when I'm able to be productive. If I say I cannot endure the long days - this is going to make me look like I'm not committed and not a team player !
In reality though it's not an excuse -
I will be happy to change my hours to suit them but literally cannot work more than 8 hours
How would you approach this ? Could they say I'm not suited to my role ? Could this be covered by occupational health ? Help please guys

Can you get more meds to cover the extra?
You've said you live in Kent so I'm assuming you're with Maudsley ? I'm sure they'd be ok recommending an extra dose for when your meds wear off.
I know that's not answering the question you were asking though.... I don't know how that would go down, I guess it's dependant on your company. They sound pretty ok given their acceptance of your ADHD but - and it's a significant but - if everyone's doing 46 hours a week, sooner or later surely there will be resentment towards you for doing less?
It's hard, I definitely wouldn't like to do all those hours, difficult situation for you xx

You may find a substantial, slow carb, breakfast and a good lunch helps. Splitting your dose in half and taking some at 09:00 and the rest at 12:00 may also help. Ultimately, you may need to up your dose. Boundaries etc, are a bit of a minefield. Just something you pick up with experience. If the entire team feels obliged to work on, you may need to open dialogue 'in the interests of the team' to ensure nobody approaches burn out... including you
