Any recommendations - or suggestions for how I might go about finding a good one?

What kind of CBT?
AFAIK no ADHD specific CBT has arrived in the area yet, though you keep hearing people saying 'I had CBT'.
So did I, for depression.
The Priory might make encouraging noises about it but so far it's not been 'the real thing' (though all it takes if for them to import the right person with the usual bait - a boatload of cash - so I can always be wrong).
I will keep my good ear to the ground for any developments - it's about time we had it available.

Does your role up there bring you into contact with commissioning services @planetdave
I've got an email from Susan Young outlining the path and (low) cost of a regular CBT therapist gaining the necessary training to apply it for ADHD.
Financially it's a no-brainer, especially given the cost of "supporting" an unsupported ADHDer (even a medicated one) - and, for the cost of 1 person receiving CBT from the Maudsley, you could train *10 CBT practitioners to deal with ADHDers as part of their IAPT contract
* number recalled from memory, so might be out a bit
Ages ago I put together some info about it, which never made it to the finished stage of sending to my CCG
I could send you the emails if you could use them

I can find CBT counsellors who state they cover ADHD but their 'specialities' read like a tick list. Any thoughts on having sessions by phone or Skype?

I don't see why you can't do CBT remotely.
I also tapped up my inside source on the ADHD CBT deal.
Apparently they (specified NHS trust that treats ADHD) have people qualified to do CBT but no CCG has commissioned them (ie bought the service).
So there you go - the NHS can do CBT for ADHD outside the home counties and it's just a funding issue.
I feel a campaign coming on!

Hi everyone, I am new to the site and it would seem quite late to the thread BUT hopefully not too late I have noticed over the past few years quite a lot of new CBT specialists in Manchester, the space has definitely become more competitive. I have been offering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for a number of years and find the clients very responsive. Not sure if I am allowed to add my details in this thread so I wont, but if you do want to speak to a qualified counsellor in manchester, I would be very happy to hear from anyone here. Thanks, Beverley Sandler
