Hi
Maybe it's because he has done what lots of other people have done- signed up for the petition and not realised they have to confirm their signature by confirming the e-mail from 10 Downing St!
I can see why the government do this but it must surely exclude committed people who don't pay attention to detail!!
Thanks for signing Dr Coghill-_ I must get on to Dr Kewley tomorrow because I think he may have had the same problem.

I wished him good luck with his Chinese project and then said that I hoped he would sign our petition I'm inclined to think not honey partly because of the large size of the award, the odd amount (£501,000), and the fact that there's no name, usually companies like to get some of the credit, but of course that's always a possibility and he's on the boards of most. I haven't been able to find the source so I've asked a couple of my contacts who are checking around.

Okay guys I think I know why in part it's China that's getting training in diagnosing ADHD. I found the following on the Department of Health's website: After being launched by Prime Minister Gordon Brown and China’s Premier Wen Jiabao in January 2008, the UK/China Partners in Health Innovation (PiHI) programme progressed when the first two symposia were held in Shanghai and Beijing in March 2007. . .
Yuyan Kong has also been appointed to the Department of Health-funded post of PiHI Coordinator. Yuyan is based in the British Embassy in Beijing. The PiHI action plan outlines a range of sub-programmes, which have been established and resourced by key companies or agencies. Ministers will review project progress at annual bilateral meetings. . . . .
DH International continued to host delegates from China to witness NHS reforms. A total of eight visits were organised. DH International also supported UKTI’s [This is the website where Coghill's award was announced] visit to China in June and attended the UK/China Joint Economic Trade Committee with a view to encouraging further trade between the UK and China. The Royal College of General Practitioners and the Royal College of Physicians both continue to promote collaborative projects, particularly in Shanghai. DH International is the Department of Health's international division. www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/groups/dh_digitalassets/@dh/@en/documents/digitalasset/dh_091232.pdf

It means, safensound, that I suspect it was our taxpayer money, but I can't prove it. I can only find announcements of the award on the websites for the University of Dundee, UK Trade Investment, and Scottish Enterprise, oh and a press release in The Press & Journal ( www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/885260?UserKey=)And it looks as if the Department of Health, NHS Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, UK Trade & Investment are all mixed up in it together. Whoever provided the funding for this training in China is being very coy. And it's likely that £500,00 is larger than all the money that is currently being used throughout Britain for adults with ADHD I'm now thinking about the next step! In the meantime, if anybody finds or knows anything, one way or the other, I'd love to know because at the moment I'm feeling really disgusted.

it seems the Pharma company Astra Zeneca has given some funding to this general UK/China initiative, but i'm not sure to what extent. en.astrazeneca.com.cn/502867/514205/here's a quote form the link given above- "January 2008, China/UK Partners in Health (PiHI) was signed between China and UK governments. AstraZeneca has committed to supporting the yearly training program (also called PiHI AZ Program). The main purpose of “PiHI AZ Program” is to enhance the exchange between healthcare communities of UK and China and to encourage the innovation in terms of healthcare management, medical services and technologies etc" i assume that when a big pharmaceutical company says "commited to supporting" they mean supporting financially! -m

Well roland at least youve exposed this issue.
I dont understand why we are helping China anyway on a basic level they have more money than sense quiet literally. Just a crazy situation I hope this helps you demonstrate how biased the powers that be are being towards us. Still wonder if a bit of tabloid controversial journalism wouldn’t really shout this outrageous injustice a lot louder than any other approach.
So we give money to them while we have to fill complicated forms and get advice and go through assessments for £20 DLA talk about hypocrites.

Hi matt,
I looked at the Astrazeneca project and it didn't look like it was connected to Coghill's award. I did see somewhere, and I don't remember where now that under the Community Health Project for the PiHI, there were some smaller (unspecified) projects being funded and I thought it was possible that Coghill's ADHD training was included with that.

You know I emailed that guy asking for advice ages ago and never got an answer either. Seems he doesnt really give a monkeys.

yeah, i thought that might be the case too.
also, while £500,000 would really help to change ADHD care in the UK, it's pretty small beans to a big company like AZ, so they may not feel the need to list it separately.

But companies and organisations don't usually give money anonymously (they like to get the credit) and there's absolutely no name attached to Coghill's award. And that's bit of a puzzler.
I think I'm going to do the same as madscot and I'm going to forward this information on to my MP and ask him if he knows anything. None of my contacts have come up with anything so far.

Roland, i agree totally, i've never heard of a company giving an award and not being credited for it!... but the UK government usually likes to be credited too...

Roland
Just to let you know, your enquiry is now on David Camerons desk as had e-mail confirming it had been read.
As soon as I hear anything back I will mail you with the response.
This could well be the right time to ask the questions you have, especially in light of recent news headlines on budget cuts to frontline services.

Hi Just read through the news release article on this subject and interestingly highlighted this paragraph: Building A Network Across Nations For ADHD Services, will increase the skills of a range of health, educational and voluntary service providers.
Out of curiosity, those voluntary groups representing ADHD, have any of you been approached in which to be part of this so called network or is it only for specific voluntary organisations? Would love to see a copy of their constitution!

Hi honey,
I think in this case BANANAS is specific to the Chinese project. All I know is what's in the news release, and I've asked a couple of other people and they've heard nothing either.

Hi Roland
Just it reads Building a Network across NATIONS---does this mean the UK is not part of any Nation? Sorry just being cynical lol
