Yup always have. I'm allowed a small corner of the room to be messy in, but it floods out of there regularly.

Yes - I have been doing 20 minutes a day de-cluttering (any more is torture!) and things are MUCH better.
But I'm not clutter free - yet!

Can I just say, reading this thread has been a Godsend. I realised I have finally found some understanding which I have been missing my whole life, even since being diagnosed and with an amazing psychotherapist. I have that much clutter I actually brought a second house in an attempt to move in with only the stuff I actually wanted but typical, eight years later I have two houses full of clutter!!! I'll get there though

Floordrobes (planetdave) tardis cupboards(cavity behind backboard permitting as the board buckles from jamming stuff in ) Yep, clutter. does my head in. my room represents my mind, cluttered, witha artefacts from yesteryear, stuff lying around, needing cleansing, but can't be arsed.

I feel very much at home on this page!! Agree with improvement on meds, seems to help decisions be more logical than emotional, but still a long way to go...

so relate to all the 'clutter' messages my life seems to be a constant battle with getting things sorted - always feel like if i can just get everything organised then i might be able to think straight and be more relaxed but never get there.
In october decided to paint my kitchen - still had the paint that i had bought when i first dedided to paint it which was about 5 years ago - at least! moved all furniture from kitchen into living room - ordered a new dishwasher which was reason why had decided to paint as old one packed up and if got new one first needed to put down new lino which i bought for kitchen 9 years ago! opened paint and stirred it as it didnt even look like paint anymore but must heve conjealed or something cos when stirred it turned out there was 2 puncture holes in side of tin and paint started pouring out everywhere! anyway managed to catch a lot of it in the cat litter container and proceeded to paint (once all paint on floor had dried - good job have new lino) but seemed like it must have gone off cos it doesnt cover the marks underneath.
so then takes me a week or so to get round to buying white paint thats supposed to cover anything then another couple weeks to get around to putting that on the wall and paint over it with the original (gone off) paint but wont even cover white ! takes me few more weeks to get round to buying more of the gone off colour in meantime my mate gives me a cooker and washing machine from her mums flat as she's gone into a home so they go in living room with the new dish washer thats been delivered (getting bit crowded in there now) by this time christmas is upon us and need to find room in there for a tree! spending a lot of time at laundrette as my washing machine has packed up and a lot more time washing bloody dishes which i hate doing more than anything in the world and never do until every single dish is dirty and cant swing a cat in the f'in living room as cant move for kitchen appliances etc have spent so much cash in launderette could have prob paid to have kitchen painted twice over and now its january and still havnt finished painting! clutter every where! well today AM GOING TO PAINT MY BLOODY KITCHEN and get my living room back - once i get around to putting lino down un plumbing and chucking out old dishwasher and w machine and plumbing new ones in - shouldn't take long eh!

When children come along they bring home things that make one’s heart go squishy – baby grows, pictures they have drawn, dressing up outfits, things they have painstakingly and proudly made. My sister clutter busts this stuff ruthlessly – I can’t… but I’ve found another way.
I have split these precious items into boxes that I bring out for various festivals – spring equinox, Easter, birthdays, autumn, Halloween, Fireworks and of course, Christmas. It was an enormous undertaking as I forced myself to do declutter of 8 years of accumulated stuff at the same time. Making a decision to chuck something was sometimes really hard.
I grant you that using baby grows, dressing up outfits or ancient childish pictures for decorative purposes is a somewhat eccentric, but I don’t mind that. I’d rather see and feel these precious things once a year rather than have them stuffed away in the cupboard. When I explain my reasoning, attitudes change somewhat.
I have my festive boxes in one cupboard so they are pretty easy to hand. I have made it as easy and quick as possible to put the stuff up and take it down again. It still takes time, but nowhere near the time it takes to handle the Christmas decorations.
I never want to have to take on a back log again, so I keep on top of the children’s stuff by making a decision to chuck (and I chuck a lot), add to a festival box or keep for 6 months. Keeping for 6 months helps because it is sometimes easier to chuck something out after a little time has passed.

I've just been trying to find a test that definitively tells me whether I'm a hoarder or just a messy person. I don't FEEL like a hoarder. But hoarding is related to anxiety.. And there is a certain amount of anxiety. Would someone like to come to my house and help me throw a load of rubbish out? Just look at my house judgementally until I panic and chuck it all! I'll return the favour!

I have clutter.. And I have collections...
From time to time I will try anyone of the solutions listed here but it all creeps back. But it's great to commiserate with fellow clutterers

I'll return the favour! I have a tendency to hang onto things 'just in case' they might come in handy at some point. I listen out for that thought, these days, and when I hear myself thinking it, I stop and have a good hard look at the idea. It takes quite a bit these days for me to allow myself to keep something 'just in case'. I probably waste a bit of money, but I like not having too much crap. Well, less crap than I used to have...

Have you seen the clutter checklist from hell?!! Hahahahahahaha i only looked at it just now. funnily enough, i could lay my hands on everything in the first list, thus proving myself to be highly organised. and i have at least 80% of the second list, thus proving myself to be... i only know about 80% of the second list because i screamed, laughed and closed the tab
