Hi contrarymaryYou are so right - "sustainable" is the operative word. I had a really good day today with my little musical experiment but - Can I sustain it in a way I have never managed before with any other coping system. One step at a time.

Once the missing bit is in place, then the organisational tips will be brilliant because I will finally be able to practice all the excellent advise. The Hansel and Gretel story gives an insight. They wandered to the gingerbread house but weren't successful in setting a marker for the way back home. When I get distracted I don't have an automatic marker to show me the way back to what I was originally attending to. I get lost. Can this missing bit be learnt or does it need to be supported? Is this part of ADHD or some other comorbidity that I am subject to? hi clubby i think it's a baseline part of ADHD, it's v common around here and one i can completely identify with. empathy about organisational tips. similarly re pacing: I've read umpteen books, worked with a number of different specialist OTs, and attended several courses over the last 18 years. i could easily teach it, or write a book about it, and am v popular in enabling others esp after illness, accidents etc. but i can't implement it sustainably to save my life I'm the same! I'm creative and think out of the box, I can think of a strategy for anything and everything - part of the reason why Im training to be an OT myself ... its the implementing it that's the problem. However, the game changer for me here is the medication. For the first time in my life I am managing to actually use some of these strategies for myself and stick to them!

Another 'me too' I have strategies and systems and know what I *should* do to be more organised. . . it's implementation! NOT a lack of motivation! I'm really good at advising other (NT) people how to plan and organise, how to handle social situations. . maybe I should train as an OT too!

I have often talked about sinking in to LaLaLand. Of course this means that I go deep into my own mind and become unaware of my surroundings. I am distracted by myself. I am going to attempt an attachment here which I haven't done before. It is a song by Val Doonican that represents my version of LaLaLand perfectly. Mysterious People

Oh clubby . . .it worked! and it's so 'you' to post Val Doonican I've been going to LaLa land a lot recently. I'm still acutely aware of sounds and can see everything, but somehow, none of it touches me. It can get me through difficult situations. . just take myself off. . .hide in my head. . . I've always said that I'm interested in, or can find something interesting in pretty much everything. This is a strategy to stop me being bored. It's also very much like being an inquisitive child. . .something I'm glad to still have

vagueandrandom Thanks for listening to what seems to be my theme tune I see you are now a God Wheee! I go into LaLaLand to protect myself from objects all screaming at me. I see the a soul imprint on everything and its as if they are all shouting "me, me, me, pick me". I too can find fun in anything. I am probably still a child or at least just a very very very very late developer.

My brain is buzzing tonight.
I've been reading an article on consciousness.
The latest theory is that the more conscious the brain, the more the neurons fire in a random exploratory way.
Neurons which are organised are not very conscious.
Does that sound familiar? Are we simply super conscious.?
When I slink into Lala land, am I protecting myself from a super consciousness I never learnt as a child to cope with.
Lots of folk on this site talk about being super-conscious
Instead of being labelled cavemen, maybe we are the future. We are pioneers. Wheeee

I know the words inside out an upside down Paddy McGinty's goat Delanay's Donkey O'Raffertey's motor car THANKS FOR SHARING xxxx I have done my time at the lorry driving and now I'm a white van man.. Not a great job for someone who has various mh conditions.. I don't have any favourite type of music even though I'm a 90s child. You would be surprised what you would listen to in the early hours of the morning when there's nothing else on the radio.. You find at certain times of the day listening to radio shows.. Though when ever a certain song comes on you always had a wee sing along! Driving can be stressful, long days, late nights, early starts. When a song came on you have to have a sing along there's no else about!! It can really lift your mood every time.. As someone pointed out to me, you listen to crap! Lol

Has to be Elbow - absolutely the best songs for bellowing.

I'm with Kathymel (not elbow for me tho) Singing loudly (and I have a terrible voice) in the car to keep me awake on long journeys. . If you're singing, you can't be asleep! I used to have car compilation tapes, but I'm so excited that my new car has bluetooth, so I can listen to anything that's on my ipod. . My favourite music is usually the newest, but I do revisit and rediscover things from time to time.

manson88 lol excellent xx We got a "new to us" car last year but pin no for radio doesn't work. Total disaster for me. I need the radio to sing along with. Keep meaning to take it to dealer but keep procrastinating. Never heard of Elbow . I like all music except jazz - feels creepy to me

Been thinking hard about this one. Feeling less guilty about time out because it is expected. On the other hand I achieved some tasks I have been procrastinating over for 5 years. I am certainly wayward

Flu turned into nasty cough and I had to get antibiotics as it was getting so bad.
Now I have a cold but at least my energy levels are up.
Probably payback time for the stress of moving house.
Just another thing to get in the way of aspirations.
I've been reading lots of posts lately and my head is all over the shop with thoughts about adhd management.
1 How do we switch the brain off
2 How do we switch the brain on
3 How do we reset the brain that goes into emotional meltdown
1 How do we organise a complex world
2 How do we get lists under control
3 How do we plan
4 How do we prioritise
1 How do we wake ourselves out of LaLaLand
2 How do we stop a hyperfocus
3 How do we control our impulsive intuition
4 How do we escape from procrastination
1 How do we control our involuntary movements
2 How do we stop being rigidly frozen to the spot
1 How do we make relationships with people who keep de-railing our efforts
2 How do we get professionals to listen to us, to hear our perspective
3 How can our voice as adults be heard - instead of being treated as failed children
4 How can we show everyone the way forward so that ADHD children are not forever caught up in the vicious cycle that "normal" society perpetuates
.......................... etc etc

Haven't been here for a while - and now here I am. Hmm.
I've been trying out some tactics for routineness and am finding some success until the afternoon arrives.
I don't know what it is - distraction by food, tiredness, overwhelmed by information piling in from lots of sources.
If the employment working day ended at noon I think I could cope with well practiced coping mechanisms.
It is 2pm and my brain is now in another zone. I can feel a low rumbling panic under the surface and my mind is digging in its heels.
Time to reset the brain. ?
On the basis that it is better to do something than nothing I am going to pretend it is time to get up and start the morning all over again.
Here goes. Feeling quite excited. Am I allowed cakes for breakfast?
