Hi - I'm in my late forties and was only properly diagnosed earlier this year. Your post has really summed up what I have felt for some time. I had some counselling back in the Summer which was a great help; what she said was not to beat myself up about the 'small stuff' and focus on change that will bring tangible benefits.

Hi CraftyGrafty - I think something went wrong with your post?
Mods - is there any way of contacting this user - I always worry when I see cryptic posts like this one

Some elements of your story with which I am also VERY familiar Daveofbass. I had to nudge my GP for a referral to my local mental health team (originally he said there was no help for adult ADHD in Cardiff) - the mental health clinic for Cardiff North is five minutes down the road!

In formal terms I refer to mild ADHD; with friends, family and others I feel I can trust I refer to my 'funny brain', 'messed up wiring', thing like that

Be happy! At least you didn't reply "Well, that's because 90% of what you say is utter bollocks" It doesn't go down well To be fair, she's OK and has been quite supportive during my 'journey', one of the challenges is that our friendship predates the manager-worker dynamic; another is that I feel our team (business support for a charity) is taken for granted and she buys into the manager is always right culture; so expectations of us sometimes go unmanaged.

Bit of a low one today - got accused of 'not listening' by my boss; a fair criticism in all honesty.
Mood has been up and down a little too.

Monday - really speaking I am starting to settle into a routine - the potential side effects have yet to manifest themselves (and surely won't after week?) and I'm finding that my concentration has really improved. It hasn't given me a Sheldon Cooper-like eidetic memory and I'm frustrated at still forgetting little things, but overall a positive experience.
I probably won't post on here every day from now on as people will get bored; I will post updates regarding review appointments and if anything changes.
I guess the next big milestone will be Christmas - some rather boozy evenings coming up....

So Sunday went pretty much the same as Saturday - I'm finding I'm more able to use my time more carefully (which means my flat is very slowly becoming tidier!)

This sounds very much like bullying Duckster - your boss's failure to give you a break after over 6 hours' work is outrageous. Is the business you work for part of a chain, or a smaller, 'family' business? vagueandrandom is right - you must join a union as soon as you can. They are one of those things you hope you never need to use, but there are also benefits that come with membership in addition to the help they can give when things aren't going too well. This makes me realise how lucky I've been in my journey to diagnosis.

OK so yesterday evening a few glasses of wine had really no effect at all.
First weekend on the meds - nothing unusual - bit of a lazy one, went to visit family and spent the day lazing around.

Hi auxilia I'm glad that the Concerta seems to be helping you at work. The comment on dreams made me smile. I have also been having some really bizarre and detailed dreams - it always annoys me so much that when my unconscious mind could take me anywhere, such as a beautiful tropical beach, but instead I seem to end up dreaming about something like being forced to clean carpets with only a toothbrush and a saucer of water. Freud would probably have had a field day with that.. You got off lightly - I was in a hotel with two political conventions - one liberal/left of centre (pretty much my politics) and one full-one alt right; the latter had a more fun party and I felt guilty going to it!

Probably the best day so far manic day in work but coped well I think. Very occasional lapses into the old daydreaming mode but nothing majorly disruptive. Have also stayed in a pretty good mood. Sleep is OK-ish - I keep waking up very early (after about 5 hours deep sleep) - that predates the meds however. On the other hand, don't get me started on the dreams................
Tomorrow evening I'm having a couple of glasses of wine - first time on alcohol - it's at my parents (and I always sleep there on a Friday) so a nice safe setting.

Slept OK last night but didn't real feel like going to bed until around midnight so felt a bit poo in the morning.
No 'buzz' today but no headaches either. Still feel good about work concentration, good transitioning between different tasks without the daydreaming or "where was I?" moments. Felt like burning down Sainsbury's because they didn't have any gold pens in stock (Christmas eh?). Still forgetting to do little things though which bugs me slightly. Feeling a little bit low at the moment, but on the up as I'm in my own surroundings.

Hi everyone - been a real battle getting a diagnosis (mild ADHD) and this far; I even had to take the prescription back to the psychologist (Gabalfa Clinic in Cardiff) because they filled it out wrong! Prescription is 18MG slow release Concerta.
So day 1 - have had a few palpitations (for me that's usual - I seem to get an awful lot of these for someone who has just 1-2 cups of tea or coffee in the morning - doctors have never found out why). Spent most of the first part of the day in a fairly pleasant buzz and in a pretty good mood. As for focus, I didn't find myself in that "what the hell was I doing again?" state and didn't find myself day-dreaming - my constant downfall.
About 11.30pm now - have had a slight headache since about 4.30-ish - am only just starting to feel tired

Hi gc7
I too am about to start taking Concerta XL (18mg, slow release) from tomorrow, so it would be good to compare notes!

Well - a false start it would seem - went to collect today and the pharmacist couldn't hand it over as the Psych wrote out the prescription incorrectly

All really helpful comments - I am just about to start taking Concerta for the first time (18mg, slow release), and am a little nervous. Rather typically I have played 'internet Doctor' and read up on the side effects. I also take omeprazole for recurring acid reflux which can play havoc with my digestion (mild IBS) - the Doctor didn't seem too concerned at this. They took my blood pressure which was slightly elevated but told me to get it checked again in a month or so.
Saturday will be either my first or second day taking it - I am due to meet a friend in town during the day; this will involve a few pints and I'll be travelling there and back alone on public transport; anything I should be aware of? (Sorry sounds like a dumb question!)

easilydistracted (love the nic BTW!) I don't like the sound of "public lectures and corrections", which sound a lot like workplace bullying to me; can I asked if you are in a union?

A great achievement Davem.
I am in my mid/late forties and have only recently been diagnosed - I've managed to get a degree but with all my qualifications, it was always a case of 'scraping through' (all my exam passes are C grades!). I always feel that I have not reached my full potential in my various careers, for similar reasons that you give in your account.
