Cheers Foggy
I had an inkling it wouldn't be as simple as him prescribing them on my initial visit, and that is dependent on his diagnosis too of course - He might send me away to meditate instead!

For me presently, my weaknesses are crushing the life out of my strengths, I'm more introverted at work, less confident, more disorganised, and this impacts my social life etc. in the same way... I don't doubt that CBT or counselling would help me, but the root cause of all my mental problems is inability to focus... I'm in debt so to get myself out of debt I need to earn more money, can't earn more money without getting a promotion, can't get a promotion as I can't do the job I've already got properly through my inability to focus. Same story for social life, marital relationship etc. - Vicious circle
I'd prefer to look at meditation, counselling and other therapies rather than medication, but they are future fixes for me - Right now I need to stop the world from spinning. Glad you have found the determination though without medication - the drugs do work... but mainly for the shareholders of drugs companies

'lo all
Tried a search but couldn't find anything that directly answered my question, what physical or other tests might I expect should I be prescribed medication from a private consultation ? Blood pressure ? Pulse check ? Blood test ?
Has anyone had them done on the same consultation appointment or is this done on a secondary follow-up appointment (My initial assessment is only for an hour, follow ups are 30 mins)
Looks like some folk here have had to wait for a follow-up appointment before being prescribed medication ? Although it looks like these were NHS referrals ? Seems there isn't a hard and fast rule really, more case by case ?
Cheers

Was just thinking back to the Bruce Willis/Samuel L Jackson film 'Unbreakable'... For those that don't know, the plot is that Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) is born with Type I osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare disease in which bones break easily. As revealed later in flashbacks, Elijah draws on comic books he has read during his many hospital stays to theorise that, if he is frail at one extreme, then perhaps there is someone "unbreakable" at the opposite extreme.
Make me wonder if all these world beating 'Captain's of industry' and leaders in all walks of life that we see, tremendously organised, intelligent, confident, are the opposite extreme from what we are ?
I've read that people with ADHD can be Captain's of industry/leaders in their in own right... I'd guess these are the exception rather than the norm though ?

I think I may be able to reap some alleged benefits once I've had my assessment and hopefully can start to make headway into leading a somewhat normal'ish kind of life, I certainly relate to what you say Mike1986 about wandering from room to room... I'm my worst enemy when I'm unsupervised

After my Dad died I got this 'sense of unreality' a lot but I understand this is one of the many characteristics of bereavement ? I've always been best able to describe it as being Marty McFly as he walks into Hill Valley town centre in 1955, everything looks so real but he can't believe any of it at first and whilst he knows he needs to get back to his reality in 1985, he's stuck! Really most unpleasant time of my life - I do still occasionally get it, that eveything is real to touch but doesn't actually feel real ?

I am good at anticipation, be better if it was precognition of course but that I think is about the only positive I can claim. Other than that I've had short-lived fads/interests all my life, never being able to commit or stick to anything long term - Good to see you have some positives though

Doesn't look you have an account so doubt if you'll see this Katrina ? I see Dr. Mahadun in August, costs are slightly cheaper at £250 for the 1st hour and half-hourly follow ups at £125...
Don't know anymore than that presently, will post an update when I know more

Deffo about the teamwork, was only thinking that earlier... I'm 40 and have never participated in team sports since leaving school, only ever been running and cycling for me, and even now I've never ended up joining a cycling club, sooner go out on my own, just seems so much easier and 'less' committed

I've got a private assessment with Dr. Prem Mahadun in August at the Priory in Altrincham, I've already had a useless NHS assessment back in 2004 - Let you know how I get on
