oops, yes, you mentioned less already in your other post.
Actually, I think my original reply in post 18 was misinterpreted or maybe putting exact detail on it was not so easy.
It was.......... "All I know is that when hypo is prefixing a word, it means smaller, less active.. When hyper prefixes a word, it means large, more active"
You asked: "theres got to be an explanation as if hypo means less and hyper means more why would hypomania be an elivated mood?
Using my explanation would mean: hypomania = less active mania/smaller mania
I think that's clearer.

Good question on the bottom line. To clarify it a bit better. Hypomania means "less than mania" and is still an elevated mood. Hypothyroid, however, means less than "normal" expected thyroid hormone production. Maybe it's easier to refer bp1, bp2 and cyclothymia (which are still only 3 intensities.)
I'm willing to bet virtual £'s that the manic/depressive parts of a cycle do not have equal durations.
As for a dysthymia like feeling, I've had that seemingly for at least 25+ years. Probably should get some drugs in me.

I don't see much need to deal with people, these days. I'm not sure I have ever been really interested in people, I just did whatever I needed to do, to avoid being noticed as a weirdo. Smoke and mirrors, someone said. Sleep clinic was something I thought about. I did a recording on my phone to see if sleep apnoea was detectable (the large spikes in the audio waveform can be detected easily in goldwave etc) The theory is simply.......person stops breathing, eventually snorting/inhalation/wakeup happens creating a big noise spike. There were none, but I only did one recording. Anyway, it's typical that in the old days I would hate getting up for school or work, but on a day off, I could be awake quite easily. Not so easy now. Anyway, I'm off topic now so I'll stop here.

Phil, you seem to be confusing some terminology....... I don't really understand that o.O All I know is that when hypo is prefixing a word, it means smaller, less active.. When hyper prefixes a word, it means large, more active. Examples. 1) hypothyroid (underactive thyroid), hyperthyroid,(overactive) (euthyroid is considered "clinically acceptable" range) 2) Hyposexual (undersexed) hypersexual (oversexed) 3) Mania itself is meant to be bipolar 1, hypomania, bipolar 2, cyclothymia (hypohypo mania) the level of depression is always linked to the previous level of mania. That's why cyclothymia is possibly more tolerable, as its not triggering enough. Just having 3 levels is probably still too simplistic.....but easier to record. See how dysthymia (dysfunctional mind) interacts here. You could have dysthymia, cyclothymia and hyperthymia (http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage.cfm?ID=-986382297) One's mileage may vary and as our brains are organic, who knows what changes happen over time? ? No one really knows or can predict fully. That's me as well. Hate the daytime really. However, once all goes quiet that's when I can finally "concentrate" more on my fixation of the hour/day/week. See above. I don't think that's right unless you specifically have a source link to prevent any misunderstanding. Phil, I understand the confusion now. You seem to be using hypo instead of hyper.. hypographia is the opposite of hypergraphia. (lower vs higher activity) See above. ______________________________ In May 2009 my ADHD - maudsley - (SLAM) conclusion was that I did not hit enough markers for an ADHD diagnosis (as per symptoms of course) I was not even convinced I was ADHD, so I was objective about it as there is no point falling into something that is not fully correct. However, recommendations were made that I should get an ASD consultation, as I had easily made the cut off for that on the numerous self rate questionnaries, of which there were many (total of about 1000 self rate questions at the time plus 3 hours at the maudsley and more questions. The problem, looking back at my 5 page evaluation, was that I could not really remember many adhd symptoms (inattentive or otherwise. I'm certainly not hyperactive) from childhood. I've always maintained that the current status of the multitude of mental "differences" is that of a slowly disentangling ball of wool, with many threads. Some threads are mistaken for others, hence time will be taken, and much research money will be burned during the global quest for clarity of what label to give which symptoms. There's lots' of money in research, but once a topic is exhausted, funding will be far less, I should imagine. Russell barkley has stated common co-morbids of adhd, are dysthymia and ODD ( think it was ODD) However, Dysthymia, marked as usually a 30 year span between affect and diagnosis, can cause much damage over time. If I had to give myself labels I would have to say..... Some avoidant personality disorder Some Borderline personality disorder Attention deficit disorder - as I'm too easily distracted. I've tried to discern whether official adhd types are as easily distractible as me, via a poll, and I think it was the case. However, one's perception of a level of impairment does not always match anothers' perception. Definite dysthymia. My energy and enthusiasm is pretty bad, but consistent. I have to pep myself on rage comics these days....... Laughing does help considerably, when I remember it. Possible borderlining on hypogonadism, need to try testosterone for this one. I could score easily depression, but it's a strange type, which is why I feel that dysthymia causes my apathy. Then we have the dopamine connection to some of these and its effect on many aspects of mind. The worst thing is that an asd diagnosis will do nothing for me. Edit: Bipolar is, where I've read numerous offical , guides, considered a spectrum disorder , because it has several subtypes, not just one. _________ www.mayoclinic.com/health/cyclothymia/DS00729www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12462857www.webmd.com/bipolar-disorder/guide/cyclothymia-cyclothymic-disorderapps.who.int/classifications/apps/icd/icd10online/www.dsm5.org/ProposedRevision/Pages/proposedrevision.aspx?rid=158# (cyclothymia) www.dsm5.org/ProposedRevisions/Pages/proposedrevision.aspx?rid=46 (dysthymia) ADHD is a slightly easier diagnosis in dsm 5 and will either catch more borderline adhd, or will catch some "normal" people with slight deficits.....depending on one's opinion. I haven't seen any doctor since the diagnosis in 2009......... Good innit? anyway..........back to distractions'...

QUOTE Yes, some people are beyond any help and rehabilitation, but such people in my opinion are relatively few and far between. END That statement is based on the amount that you've encountered and dealt with and I don't know that figure. I hope that they are few are far between as well. Also, it's important to note that until one has encountered truly nasty person, or entered their sights for some reason, you have not encountered the worst. Also, there is no easily calculated probabiity on whether you will survive or not. "Reformed" or otherwise criminals can sometimes play the "poor me" card or the "I won't do it again" card. The hidden possibilities out there are massive. I can't give any statistics on my opinion unfortunately and I expect that there are only a few hundred people in the world who could even try to state how many "nasties" there are. Everyone just has to accept that people they sometimes meet up with, or pass by, in car or otherwise, could potentially be truly nasty if and when it suits them. I doubt that there is even a visual criteria that can be constructed. Still, that's only my uneducated opinion

Bah, categorising the entire human race into 12 months!!!!!!!!! I'm octoberian and I only get a marker for asthma.......which I don't have...... muahahahah But, does it blend, that's the question? If we had to catalogue the entire human race as a snapshot in time, how many variants would we have/checkboxes would we need? All physical +mental traits? activated genes for each person and so on? excessive posting disorder etc etc? This is just silly stuff and should be placed in the ignore bin like many other newspapers articles' Vitamin D however, is just another vitamin, there are plenty to intake. Water soluble's should be paid more attention than fat soluble, for sure. Then there is the issue of digestion and absorption...... Also, there'll always be someone who defies the scientific expectations, somehow.

I would always try and find out what the majority psychology of the person is. Are they mostly pleasant/trying to be pleasant? Or, are they just greedy, selfish 24/7 etc etc? Venlaxafine is only an ssri, but you state it changed him completely, which would point to him having serious serotonin based issues with mood etc.? He sounds like he has a bad attitude and thinks he is top dog, like some sort of narcissistic behaviour. Probably not really a nice person at all when he's in "bad mode" www.maritalhealing.com/conflicts/angrychild.phpThere's a lot of information ^^. Obviously, I skimmed it, but was interested in any connection with anti depressants and conduct disorder. QUOTE Medication Medication has been helpful in decreasing ODD while uncovering the causes of anger and working on growth in virtues. A 1999 study reported that stimulant medication produced significant improvement both in ADHD-related and oppositional behaviors (MTA Cooperative Group, 1999.) Other research has provided evidence for the effectiveness of mood-enhancing medication (SSRIs) in children whose oppositional behavior is associated with obsessiveness and irritability (Garland EJ, 1996.) Atypical anti-psychotics have also been useful in some highly disruptive children with ODD. Patients with ODD and CD with severe aggression may respond well to risperidone, with or without psychostimulants, (Turgay, A. 2009.) A major concern in regard to medication in children is that from 1992 to 2002, the prescription of atypical antipsychotics for the treatment of aggressive and disruptive behaviors in children increased seven fold, (Correll, CU, et al. 2006 and Olfson, M, et al. 2006,) This research clearly demonstrates both the growing problem of excessive anger in our children and the need for alternative approaches for addressing this serious difficulty other than through medication.

I'm going to be a bit more clear about my feelings on the matter. I firmly believe there are people out there with almost very little to no conscience, many of whom know they are doing very wrong things (in the eyes' of the majority.) They could be known as bullies, narcissists, sociopaths, psychopaths. I personally, have no sympathy for the worst of these people (who have proven themselves clearly seperate from humanity and humanitarian values/beliefs) and will be glad to know they have been fully removed, somehow, from society, preferably at very little cost. Unfortunately, some of them are well established in official positions, regardless of vocation and thus they thrive, because they show that you can get away with it, if you are high up enough. Obviously, high profile cases, or serious crimes will almost always get a prison sentence, as not even politicians can allow these crimes to be ignored. I expect there are a few exceptions though. Summing up, if the worst of society are clearly unfixable and have done really bad, inhuman things, without a proven dysfunctionality of mind, then I think they need a proper punishment that may make others' think twice about behaving similarly or something else...... The only trouble with deciding punishment is balancing it to make sure it stops the worst crimes from happening. If the punishment is harder, they may make sure to do more damage and get completely annihilated so they don't have to take punishment. I reckon torture would work quite well to deter others'......... I'm only scratching the surface here...and I'm already falling into a large discussion potentially. A lot of violence is caused by alcohol consumption, but alcohol is treated so casually, compared to other drugs' that barely cause the same damage as an area effect. (body damage may be different, but if they want to damage themselves', that's their choice....damaging other people is not their choice) Obviously, those "carers" didn't need anything to help them with their "duties" and that puts them, more than likely into my criteria for torture see how they like it. Then, that brings up the "two wrongs don't make a right" issue. The only way to counter that is to make sure the punishment deters others'. Refer to my previous mention of crime vs punishment. _____________________________________ Perhaps best to let those who are hurt/affected by the nastiest of society to deal with them....After all, they have more right for revenge and I reckon proper revenge would be pretty good. We''ll need a referendum on it one day.... :/

Disagreement is good, in a civilised fashion:) Where would we be without it?
To do what those people did, shows their inhumane qualities, which they were no doubt born with or forged into via one influence or another.
I'm not talking about impulsive, explosive or reactionary moments where someone did something in retaliation in the heat of the moment. I'm talking about those that are persistent and consistent in their inhumane treatment of people and go to work, knowing that they are going to do something to liven their day up or make themselves feel good or satisfied.
We all know what is wrong, when we do it. Some people are simply a law unto themselves.
I'm sure we all know people like this or know of them.
QUOTE When you combine poor management, poor/no training, very low wages (meaning poor quality of life outside work), very long hours, sleep deprivation, staff shortages, personal life goes down the drain along with your social support, then you throw some challenging behaviour into the mix...... END
I fully understand the impact of those variables, but £1000 per hour and a 20 hour week would not stop this behaviour, if the scum are so inclined.

"the experiment" and "das experiment, 2001" were based on a power-shifting environmental (basically) experiment, the stanford experiment. There are criticisms of the stanford experiment as well..
I reckon that those people, whatever, wherever, whenever, work out the boundaries, either through learning from other antagonists' or by themselves, then have their fun.
There are enough examples out there, to show it's just sheer lack of moral conscience.

I couldn't bear to watch that program.
I saw some photos and descriptions of the major arseholes like wayne.
What disturbs me is that this was happening for at least an extra 5 weeks from recording time. For me, just catching someone twice doing something would be enough to kick their arse. This people will only get done by the court system because it's become a "big issue" Once it's all blown over, the rest of the scum can carry on regardless, but being more aware of newbies who ask questions and behave suspiciously.
It's been happening since the first arsehole was allowed into care, whenever that was. (probably a few years after extreme survival needs meant that people didn't need to band together so much)
This world is far more aware that those who act like they are so caring, could not be any further from that, in a percentage of cases. I don't want to know the percentage though.....
What really disturbs me is how nothing is done until it appears on television. Do we need this to happen everytime, before arrests are made? Of course this is only one of many problems' that exist.
