I'm just glad I didn't rearrange the whole thing totally as I'd considered! There are some minor IMPROVEMENTS still to come but nothing too drastic!

LOL, if theres somewhere that appreciates honesty I know its here so im not licking anybodies behind unless its well deserved And I also thought I had pressed the wrong link. How many people pressed it again? Cmon, hands up I'm the opposite, green isn't my favourite colour but blue is definately my least favourite!

how do i look at the website? is there a link Just out of interest, how do you get to the forum if you don't get here via the website? There is a link to the forum from the website which is how I thought you would have got here, but obviously not. The website is www.aadd.org.ukBy the way, the previous background was just white with no grey! PB

Most people did, but I was one of the few who loved it!! Come on, you're supposed to have ADHD, aren't you bored with the old look yet? PB

Hasn't anyone visited the website? These colours are exactly the same as the website, it isn't finished yet and anything can be modified (still work in progress!). As far as the white background making eyes go funny though, it was white before (well very slightly off white). If everyone needs a different colour background, let me know, I thought white would be clearer and easier to read (as well as tying in with website).
The width of site is going to be modified to tie in with website too soon.

When I walk my dog I meet a guy who always has a guide dog puppy in training for the 1st year of its life, to socialise them etc. I love walking with him and the dogs are always totally gorgeous and I fall in love with them and its always sad when they're ready to go! The last one he had actually failed (I can't remember the reason) but there is always a huge queue for failed or retired guide dogs because they're such lovely dogs. This one was rehomed with one of the guide dog trainers as her pet (lucky thing!).
I get so overwhelmed by their cleverness and ability, it totally reduces me to tears. As well as guidedogs for blind, you can get them for deaf and disabled. I used to bump into a woman in a wheel chair with a dog for the disabled who used to get washing out for her etc.
I tried to train my dog to be a guide dog for ADHD disability (ie finding my keys) but unfortunately I failed miserably!!! However, isn't that a great idea? With their noses we'd only have to say the word of the thing we'd lost and they'd take us straight there.

Hi Honey We have a Facebook Group www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2474319084 (not sure if link will work, if not its called Adult ADHD UK (AADD-UK)). We have posted the link to our Government petition on there and several of us have also posted links on our profile. I guess it makes more sense to get as many names as possible on 1 petition, rather than have a number of smaller petitions for the same cause. (I often find this with Facebook Groups, there are loads for the same thing and you wonder which one to join.) If you haven't already joined the group, please do. You're right that Facebook is proving to be very powerful these days! Please post the link on your profile and encourage friends/family to do the same. Thanks PB

MPH is absorbed at the same rate as full amphetamines AFAIK - so injesting means you start to feel the effect in 20 minutes. It sits in the synaptic cleft for a good period denying the sites to other drugs - thus MPH can be used to wean from more 'hardcore' drugs eg cocaine since the cocaine has nowhere to bind if the MPH has already taken the receptor sites. MPH (methylphenidate) is shorthand for methyphenidate hydrochloride. You're nearly there with the ADHD meds. Dex, MPH, Adderal etc are all variations on the amphetamines. Atomoxetine is the most common exception since it's a NSRI (rather than a DSRI) Statins are a popular type of drug for reducing cholesterol. Maybe you were thinking 'beta blockers' which can be useful to treat the hypertension that is common in ADHDers? There are a whole raft of drugs that could be used to treat the symptoms of ADHD but it must be better to tackle the problem at source and and the moment the best we have is stimulants. So that ranges from amphetamine style drugs to caffeine and low doses of alcohol (since it's dopaminergic - but alcohol brings more problems with more than very low dosages). HTH Methylphenidate is not amphetamine! They are both stimulants used to treat ADHD but 2 different stimulants that do work differently. The first line drugs for ADHD tend to be stimulants (either methylphenidate or amphetamine based). These work instantly and can be instant or slow release depending on which drug you're on. Very often for a person if 1 doesn't work the other might work better. Then you have the non-stimulant drugs which take longer to get into your system but can also be very effective. PB

Hi forgetnotme, I guess shape boxing is using boxing as an aerobics exercise to get you fit and in shape and boy is it a workout! Its not exactly with a trainer, its more like a game, where they tell you what moves to make and the moves for each arm goes up the screen and if you hit each one you score points. Time time flies for me during the workouts cos I love them. I loved the Wii Fit one too, I just get a bit bored waiting for him to show me the moves all the time in that one and this one gives you a far better workout. If you google it you'll probably find a promotion video or screen shots for it. This is the link for it on gamespot but unfortunately none of the pictures here show the main part of the game which is shape boxing. There are clips of it on the video but they show the training exercises more which I haven't even looked at yet as they aren't the main attraction for me to the game. uk.gamespot.com/wii/sports/goldsgymcardioworkout/index.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssimilargames&tag=similargames;img;2PB

We learned all about this at our Support Group on Monday (but I'm afraid I'm not good at retaining this information too much). Its to do with the dopamine and we don't produce enough and methalphenidate reuses what we do produce and forces our brain to reasorb it, whereas amphetamine produces lots more? Or something like that. I think I'm on the right tracks, maybe someone who was at the Bristol Support Group on Monday can say whether I've remembered this correctly or not.

Oh Andy you've obviously not tried wii boxing. after it has taught you the only way to win it is to keep punching then the bullies don't stand a chance pink beauty - there is no guilt trip about gym fees paid and not used and last night I was feeling real crook but half an hour on the step exercise trying to beat my daughters best score sorted me out. and nobody saw when my feet got tangled up. ;D ;D ;D still can't beat my daughter though Forgetmenot, have you tried 'My Fitness Coach - Cardio'? Its new out and is all about Shape Boxing and trains you properly. You'll love it, its brill! Amazon £13.99 but Tesco have VAT free on chart games so is £14 something when you buy it in there. Very worth while!! PB

Well, I don't really get the point of licencing laws then! If doctors just prescribe it anyway! Obviously as much as I'm for proper medication available for people with ADD, licencing is there for a reason, isn't it? Its just a guide. Some Dr's wouldn't prescribe it for that very reason. But also, look at it the other way around, most drugs are licensed for adults, so if a child is ill and needs it shouldn't they be able to get it? The medical profession haven't long acknowledged that ADHD exists in Adults, hence the current licensing, it wouldn't be needed for adults if it didn't exist. But it does, so hopefully will be changed soon and licensed for both adults and children which should make getting hold of it a lot easier for those who need it. PB

Also, the boxing one (My Fitness Coach - Cardio Workout or others) is a great way of working out your frustration. Just imagine what people you could pretend to be punching!!!!! I do, its great and before you know it you're sweating and have done quite a workout! Great for working out the aggression.

Just got round to reading this properly. I still don't really get it. The article talks about drug licences as though they're needed for the drug to be used. But, apparently, in another thread, no medication for ADHD is licenced in this country?? Hi Jeff In the UK most medications in general are licensed for adults but can be prescribed for children if the Dr believes it is necessary. All ADHD medications, however, are the other way around and licensed for children, but if your Dr is agreeable can prescribe for adults. It just makes it more difficult for GPs to prescribe and some don't like prescribing 'off licence'. Times are changing however, and with NICE now recognising Adults with ADHD and things moving (allbeit slowly) for us generally, hopefully this will change soon. Hope this helps. PB

o.Ops, Silly old me forgot that wii is a computer gamey thingy that holds adhd stimulation. Doh! Should we have an unfit contest? I reckon I would win. You should seriously consider getting one. Plus, when you go to the gym or fitness class you have all the hassle of planning it, going out to it, getting changed etc, (which is a major put-off factor for someone with ADHD), here you can just do it in your own house with no hassle whatsoever. I just wish I'd bought one years ago! I should contact Nintendo re commission or something! And the games don't need to be expensive if you shop around. One shop will always have the game you want as a loss-leader (oh yes, I well remember my commerce/economics days!). PB

I give the wii fiit 3 months tops...... I you have gone through that already, then congrats......... It'll be 3 months end of this month. And you're dead right, I usually get bored with things, but I never tend to get bored with playing computer games, and that's what the Wii is, which is why its so perfect for me. When I get bored with 1 Wii fitness game, I can get another fitness game! And at the mo I'm not doing the same one every day, which is absolutely fending off the boredom aspect! (Boxing 1 day, yoga another day, aerobic fitness another, EA Trainer another etc) And there's another 3-4 good ones coming out this year and I haven't got all the ones that are already out yet!!! lol So much to look forward to!!!! Yippeee! And, normally on computer games you spend hours on them in one go and get bored, but if you do a proper workout (and are as unfit as me) then you're unable to do this, as too knackered and sweaty and aching etc! So that keeps me interested in it too! (half an hour in one go maybe an hour max if I'm feeling energetic!) PB

I think (and hope) that I have come up with perfect solution for me. I have never been a fan of exercise, hate it and find it boring but I have now got a Wii Fit! And a load of various exercise games. I work up a huge sweat and am ache all over from various workouts but really love it cos when I get bored of one can do another and vary them to get a better work out and I don't have to leave my house! And if I feel anxious or restless, the Wii works a treat! I have muscles at the mo that I never had before! And because some of them are games and you score points, its always an incentive to beat your score so you don't realise you're exercising so much. Highly recommended!!

A year last Christmas I went to Next sales and reversed into wall in car park (wasn't such a bargain!). Later on in the year a car hit mine outside my house.
A couple of days before Christmas just gone I tried to cram my 4x4 into the only tiny space left in car park and got stuck on the side wall and then reversed into something else!
It has taken this long for the damn garage to fix the rear door, electrical problems etc. Its been back about 8 times altogether with one thing or another. For the last couple of days the garage have had it back and promised that if they couldn't fix it they'd take it to Honda garage for me, but yesterday pm, I finally picked it up and it appears to be fixed!
This morning on my way to work, someone drove into the back of me ...... I joke not! Unbloodybelievable!!!!

Thanks Mooney
I called the Bristol clinic a couple of days' ago as my GP referred me in April and I hadn't heard anything. I'm glad I did as they said they hadn't received letter so hopefully my GP has faxed it now. They said there was a waiting time of a year but they are hoping for a second consultant which should shorten the waiting list. Fingers crossed!!

What is it like to be an animal owned by an Adhd-er? That's quite interesting as you are supposed to have a routine with them which doesn't work for me. I guess my dog is used to everything being different all the time. I leave her dry food down constantly (another wrong I know) because if I had to stick to meal times to feed her. she'd never end up getting any!! BUT she's the only one who never pisses me off. She can't handle me being upset though and hides under the bed. She cuddles me all the time (apart from when I'm upset) and I don't think I'd've coped with the last 7 years without her.

Dogs without a shadow of a doubt. I love them all. My name PinkBeauty comes from my beautiful dog, Beauty!! (and I used to like pink!!)
If I wasn't so sensitive and cry over every little bad thing that happens to them, I'd love to work with them. I adore them! (Are you getting the gist?)

Hi Roisiin as well, it seems like we're in a similar boat as I am a single mum with a 4 year old very energetic very lively little boy! Its very difficult to juggle a million things especially when I could never manage my own life before I had him!! I must say, I think I'm doing far better with him though than I was before him! Maybe its because my life finally has direction!
Roisin, I have days like you mentioned too, but then other days are better. I really hope the pills help you, I would love to have some kind of CBT to go with them!
