...to get to work on time.
said my boss.
again.
working hours having been moved from 9am-5:30pm, onto 8:30am to 5pm,,,
as of last week we're at 8am to 4:30pm....
which in my I'll get up/get in the car/get out the door in a minute style basically means I'm doing 8:30am-ish to 7pm-ish every day.
I'm not sure why.
but when your "turn up at 11am leave at 6pm" boss questions your commitment to getting in on time... you drift into the world of nasty things you could possibly do to people like him who JUST DONT GET IT.
worst thing is, this is all a somewhat genuine but altogether lame attempt at "helping" me so I don't get 2 months behind on a timesheet that's utterly pointless in my feeble opine.
ho hum... at least it wasn't a "you have too many calls outstanding" day today.... grrrrooooooooooooooaaaannnn....

interesting this "neurological insult" / utero/delivery line of thought... my niece (now 11) has suffered with clear autism/adhd/aspergers from a very young age and drifted between diagnosis depending on which consultant she saw last.
she also was born several months premature with a large cyst (official name "cystic hygroma" or similar) and it was almost her size at birth.
interestingly enough her mother was working in a dry cleaners exposed to the various chemicals that I know little or nothing about throughout her pregnancy. To the point that the specialist surgeons who operated on removing the cyst at less than 2 years old have pursued legal action on the employer for the damage to growth etc etc.
I guess it would be fair to assume the chemicals would have had some effect of brain development etc too.
apologies for the severely vague and non-factual knowledge on the matter.

this looks a cool idea to me. not that it's just an idea. its clearly past that. 9am arrival could prove interesting. January is next year though right. just kidding.

I have no idea regarding the head trauma bit, but from my own experience "straight forward" adult diagnosis requires evidence of symptoms in childhood.
Little or no evidence of symptoms in childhood with many adulthood symptoms have so far sent me onto a "neuropsychological assessment" that I'm waiting for the results of - hopefully before feb 2016.
It's a struggle for answers but not necessarily a diagnosis I guess. been told they will provide some help with symptoms if they decide against a diagnosis. As a guess this would be similar "help" without medication.
I'm 35.

Not being funny but I think I'd make a rubbish terrorist...
"Ooops - yes mister terror boss, I promise I will remember to set the timer for the next one"
I know I make light of a terrible subject. it's the only way I know. There is no wrong or right IMO. referring to the article though - to suggest an impairment of some kind probably isn't far off the mark, but to narrow it down without any substance to the claim isn't really on.

lol here's the funny bit. got on the wrong train out of denmark hill station and almost ended up in dartford or something like that - but a nice lady who heard me talking to my OH on the phone pointed out I was going the wrong way for Luton so I got off and went back to denmark hill...
phew.

ok... the morning after... my head hurts. The Neurological testing reminded me of those interview/HR type tests when I usually fall flat on my face, have a random panic and then don't get the job. It's not scary though - for those who may have to do them please don't worry lol. I had a three hour appointment with a very friendly lady named Stella. we went had a half an hour conversation about why I was there and relaying symptoms and examples and general day to day problems I guess to relate them to the test results at the end. Then we went through the various puzzles, mental arithmetic, memory tests, and so on. I won't go into detail but there's nothing too advanced, but they are tricky at times, but not in a "trick question" kind of way. You can take breaks as and when you need, I opted to just go through it all rather than wait lol. The direct outcome is going to be a report / interpretation of the test results, written by the tester (I was told you can ask for the results too but they're not sent otherwise). I was told this will not form an ADHD diagnosis on its own - been told that before too so not surprised. The report gets reviewed by a superior and then goes back to the original ADHD assesmnent consultant (you get a copy). He (sorry cant remember his name) will then summarize in an overall report with a decision on the diagnosis - I don't know if you get that in the post or if you need to go back first. Then you will get invited back to go over the diagnosis & treatment options (if adhd diagnosed) or other options to help with your issues if not diagnosed. to be honest I'm relieved its moved to the next stage but also feel a little empty because it's going to be 2-3 months for the report to get to the consultant, then more waiting for his decision. realistically I guess we're talking june next year as a guess. what is nice though is that the lady took the time to explain the process and timeline and I'm not worrying about it now. I could mumble on for ages now but this post is getting long so I'm stopping.

yep... looked it up... that's definitely not me. thanks though and thank you for the good wishes too. I've muddled through some odd months & made calls eventually ("RememberTheMilk.com" as a homepage has helped massively) oddly enough using this "diary" as a reference of where I got to last has probably been the biggest assistance so far. I've learned lots in this forum in the last couple of years and was massively surprised it's been that long when I looked yesterday. a pick and mix of methods and tools for sure. I'll admit its usually the first place I go to now when something happens. here's hoping getting answers = some kind of personal progress too. Be it lots of "I said you were being daft - now what excuse are you going to make?", comments or "Ok what next? how is it going to improve things?" remarks at least it's going somewhere... as you may be able to tell I'm a little excitable about it all... (i've just deleted a few paras of random tangents to spare people the boredom lol) having a grumpy day today. been told off for upsetting folk deliberately on Facebook. (naughty dan!)

woo hooo - this afternoon I had a "private number" call me and I now have an appointment on the 18th Nov for the NeuroPsych assessment at Maudsley (or is it Maudsly?)
I have no real idea of what's involved but I need to remember my glasses apparently suggesting reading activity.
is it too cheesy to say "I'm Psyched" like they do in Aussie soaps?

I come lightheartedly to announce I ALWAYS do the boot forgetful thing, aiming for the joyous sense of achievement gained by getting one of those pull out forwards without having to reverse in spots. I always get gently reminded "boot" by my OH (she knows what I'm like too).
I also do the mad drive around the car park in a huff looking for "next best" space, (internally thinking "dammit should've reversed") I regularly pass "humpty dumpty" comments about how that space would have been fine, then proceed to blame everyone and everything (including inanimate objects and the functionality of my car) for making parking difficult whilst badly driving/parking...
at which point the OH rightly tears a strip out of me, I add some expletives to the mix and we "go shopping" in grumpy fashion... usually with me heading straight for shoe shops (they have seats you know!)
I don't think it's pride, maybe a mix of distraction and an overly-snappy reaction - whilst attempting to focus on the job at hand along with frustration that you didn't get it right first time.
I do exactly the same overreaction when anyone talks in my house when I read, am watching an intense moment on TV... or when I'm trying to clean something or do something focus-y lol.
I don't always get why my family get so upset by it either - surely they get I don't mean it by now???
Feel for you - maybe try adding humour to your inquisitiveness... when OH takes the mickey I can't help but laugh and she gets her way then!

ok - got through to a friendly chap today. turns out leaving report with ADHD on your desk acts as a good reminder. for the "neuro" appointment it was said that someone from "behavioural genetics" has probably been trying to call. although after the chap quizzed the person that does that it turns out it wasn' them either. with nothing pending on the system he advised he was going to send an email round the team to find out if anyone called and/or what's happening with the process (well I think thats what he said anyway?) so back to waiting with phone on "ridiculously loud" setting.

yep this is hopefully a call re assessment part deux too. well a "neuropsychological assessment - to investigate further attention and executive functioning" anyway. (not diagnostic for ADHD it specifically stated in report from first assessment.) anyway I called like a million times yesterday and left a message but didn't speak to anyone. If I was them I'd hate me by now lol.. perhaps mondays are busy like everywhere

YKYHADHD When you decide to clear out your webmail account to make it useful for actual real communication again...
then you look in your nice neat organised "ADHD" folder and find over 1500 "MUST READ" Additude articles and begin reading one by one... interrupted within minutes by posting news of it here... now where was I ?

thanks still stumbling along. having a better week. Have discovered a new alarm app for my work phone called "Walk Up" the free version is limited but that's turning out to be a good thing... the only alarm tone available is "Man Screaming" and it's literally that. you can set it so you have to walk 10, 20, or 30 paces to get it to stop - there is no other way to snooze etc etc. scared the life out of my OH the first time (admittedly I forgot to mention it) but I'm actually getting up in the mornings now. I think that's a victory.

summoned previously mentioned willpower to call to chase... got told "neuro" is a busy department "short staffed" and they sent an email to the person responsible to arrange... I said that it would be nice just to know if I am waiting for an appointment or not as I haven't got a clue whats going on really. To which the response again was that an email had been sent... I know its one of them things but just now to top it off I was rushed into an unexpected meeting at work - turned out to be a preventative intervention notice or something like that... key points - I'm always late, I'm always distracted by my phone, I never have my timesheet up to date, I never finish tasks, I never remember to let people know I'm not finishing their task yet... in summary. grooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. I need a pint. I know it won't help. Can I give up now please I've had enough

when you attempt to call the kids (girls) for dinner, then proceed to run through the names (male and female) of everyone you know before giving up, going upstairs and asking them "What are your names again?" or "which one are you?".
Then when asked what it is you actually wanted you can't recall then go downstairs and do something else while their dinner chills accordingly...
DOH
